Allow Custom Roles to appear as Role Label

Problem statement:

New Discussions functionality allows Instructor and TA roles to be labeled: Canvas Release: Discussions/Announcements Redesign However, Custom Roles based on Instructor or TA roles are not currently labeled in New Discussions. For example, we have a custom role named Canvas TA that is based on the TA role. A person with the Canvas TA role is not currently identified in New Discussions as a TA/Canvas TA.

Proposed solution:

We would like Role Labels to appear in New Discussions for custom roles that are based on the default Teacher and TA roles. Ideally, the custom role names would appear in the role label instead of the base role e.g., a person with our custom Canvas TA role would have a "Canvas TA" role label.

Thank you for writing this up Tasha.  I would second this request and love to see it happen. This would reduce a lot of confusion for students and reduce concern/questions for instructors.

I like this idea and would take it further. By having a checkbox that would allow the label to show the custom name or the root role it is part of.

Following examples stated above:

• "Canvas TA" is based of "TA" when the root label checkbox is set. The label would show: "TA".
• "Canvas TA" is based of "TA" when the root label checkbox is not set. The label would show: "Canvas TA".

I also am in favor of including custom roles in the discussion redesign labeling and the ability to select base type or custom name.
