Discussion Board/Announcement Redesign Accessibility Concerns

Community Member

I did some light accessibility review/testing of the Discussion Board/Announcement Redesign and wanted to share some concerns:

  • Per my testing, I noted that there is no text alternative alert to notify a non-visual user that they have an @mention in any discussion reply
  • When NVDA encounters an @mention as a user, it announces something like "Name" from list, which is not a clear indication of the purpose of this as a mention
  • When using the Quote feature, the quote itself does not appear in the editor which can cause issues for all users, but especially those who might have cognitive disabilities and or using a screen reader as it does not afford access to view quote for reference as you expand on your reply...it makes it look broken honestly to a visual user
