What is Discussion Translation?
Discussion Translation is an AI powered translation tool for Discussion users to translate discussion topics and replies. It is present in Announcements as well.
How do I enable Discussion Translation?
- Open your Canvas instance
- Courses → Settings → Feature Options
- Enable the following flag: Course AI Translation
Note: Your institution needs to enable or unlock the Course AI Translation flag on account level
Which languages are available in Discussion Translation?
Currently, 10 languages are supported and plan to add more over time. The available languages are:
- Catalan
- Chinese (Simplified)
- Dutch
- English
- French
- German
- Portugese (Brazil)
- Russian
- Spanish
- Swedish
Can I enable it for Discussions or Announcements separately?
No. The Course AI Translation flag is controlling both Discussion and Announcement translation features.
Is there a permission for Discussion Translation?
No, all users with Discussion - view permission can translate translations
Can students see the translation option?
Yes, if the feature option for the course is enabled, students can see and use Translation.
What is Inbox Translation?
Inbox Translation is an AI powered translation tool for Inbox users to translate an inbox message while composing. It allows users to choose if the translated version should appear first or second in the message. Both the original and the translated version will be included.
How do I enable Discussion Translation?
- Open your Canvas instance
- Admin → Settings → Feature Options
- Enable the following flag: Inbox AI Translation
