In my paid Canvas, I click on the left students and can add students. In my latest free canvas class, I don't see where to click on the left "students", so how do I add students?
Thanks, Todd

Hi, @ToddBooth ! Thanks for posting on the canvas community.
On the Free for Teacher edition of canvas, to add students you must click the People link via your course navigation. Once you click the People link, you will be greeted with a roster of everyone in your class. Click the + People button on the top right hand corner of your screen, then enter in the email connected to the canvas account you want to add.
I hope this helps you, reach out with any questions! I'll provide a quick video below to assist you.

Hi @AT_24 ! Thanks for reaching out.
The first thing I would check is that your course is published. If NONE of your students or observers are receiving the invite link, this is likely the reason why (your course is unpublished).
If it’s only individual students, please ensure there is an account associated with that email. If there is, and they have yet to receive the invitation, have your student go to their account settings and ensure their email is verified to their account, as sometimes canvas has a hard time if it can’t find that email.
I hope this helps point you in the right direction, please reach out with anymore questions or concerns! Happy to help.

I'm also using Free for Teacher Canvas and all my attempts to add people (students or observer) result in pending status.
People who were added to the course never get their emails with the link.
Any tips?
Support via email is not helpful so far.
TIA

Hi @NoahBoswell ,
thank you for your response!
Turned out, emails were not sent because course start date was set too far ahead for September.
But now I'm puzzled with "ensure there is an account associated with that email".
How student can have an account before I've added them from People and they received an email with the link?
TIA
Hi Tia, @AT_24
I apologize for any confusion!
Are you using the K12 Free for Teacher edition of Canvas? If so, then there doesn't have to be an email, you can invite students via their username that they created upon account sign-up.
If you're using them other free for teacher edition of Canvas (canvas.instructure.com instead of k12.instructure.com), then when students or teachers sign up they have to use their email, at least I'm fairly sure with my own experience.
I am a little confused by your question- are you asking how are students able to have an account before you invite them with the link? Students are able to create accounts without being invited to a course if you're using the canvas.instructure.com version of FFT. That is not possible with K12.instructure.com to my understanding.
If you are providing your students with an invite link or join code, and are then asking them to make their student accounts, then they would go to the canvas k12 FFT sign up and make a username, password and enter the course code.
Does this make any more sense? Sorry if it doesn't, please reach out!
Hi, I am also trying to add a user. I followed the instructions described, but there is no "+ People" button anywhere. Is there another way I can add a user?
Hi @ChristinaSun ,
Are you using Canvas Free for Teacher? If so, there is a + People button located on the people tab of the canvas course in the top-right. I will provide a link to more information below.
https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Instructor-Guide/How-do-I-add-users-to-a-course/ta-p/1119
If you are using a paid canvas account (that your school / district would purchase), then you may not have permissions to add people to your course, especially if your instance uses a SIS Import or something similar to automatically add people to the course.
You can also enable a join code for your course via the course settings, and have your students join the course that way, too.
Hope this helps!

@NoahBoswellThanks! I am using a paid canvas account so I've reached out to those who have permissions to add the learner to the course. I appreciate your responding.
Problem solved.
Glad to help.
