[Admin Tools] Ability to Hide Outdated Outcomes and Rubrics

This is a request for the ability to hide outdated outcomes and rubrics. As changes are made to outcomes and rubrics throughout the institution, there is no way to hide outdated outcomes and rubrics. This means that instructors may accidentally attach the wrong outcome or rubric to coursework. Plus, sunsetted outcomes and rubrics cause clutter.

At current, our institution has marked many as DO NOT USE, but the ability to hide them would be cleaner and more beneficial. Other institutions that choose to use outcomes likely have need of this ability as well.

PLEASE

We use outcomes but when we were learning all about how they work YEARS ago, we did not know you could not delete outcomes.  It would be so helpful if they could be deleted if needed.

I agree that this is needed and we have also tried to develop some of our own workarounds to manage it as best we can with the current system.

In the past we would create rubrics at the sub-account level.  However, this has become problematic as the list becomes very long and there is no easy way to organize rubrics at the sub-account level and you can't remove old ones once they are used for grading.  Thus, we started making the rubrics within our blueprints so that when they copy out to a course, they are their own independent copy instead of being linked to a master copy of the rubric.  So now when we need to replace a rubric we can move it to a course that we are using as a repository for past versions and create the updated version in the blueprint to go out to future courses.

We also have outcomes created at the root account level and centrally managed by only a small group of people to ensure we use consistent naming conventions and associate them with the appropriate rubrics and assignments in blueprint courses.  To help manage the old outcomes, we started making groups with Archive in the name so that when an outcome is no longer in use, it will get moved to the Archive folder so the data can still be retained.

As part of the new Ideas & Themes process, all ideas in Idea Conversations were reviewed by the Product Team. Any Idea that was associated with an identified theme was moved to the new Idea & Themes space. Any Idea that was not part of the move is being marked as Archived. This will preserve the history of the conversations while also letting Community members know that Instructure will not explore the request at this time.
