Email as an option for two factor authentication

Currently, Canvas requires a mobile device to set up multi-factor authentication for your user account. This creates a problem for students who do not have a phone.

Please enhance the system to allow users to use email as the second form of authentication in your next product enhancement!

Hi @lings - I can see how this would be helpful!

In the meantime, you can create Authentication Back-Up Codes that you can use without text-messaging. How do I set up multi-factor authentication for my user account as a student?

As part of the new Ideas & Themes process, all ideas in Idea Conversations were reviewed by the Product Team. Any Idea that was associated with an identified theme was moved to the new Idea & Themes space. Any Idea that was not part of the move is being marked as Archived. This will preserve the history of the conversations while also letting Community members know that Instructure will not explore the request at this time.
