Enter More Than One Link in a Module to a Box File at a Time

0 Likes

Please create an interface that allows one to set up all at once the links to all Box files that belong to a given module, including the permission setting that allows students to see the files.

Currently, the interface requires that one not only go through redundant steps in the process repeatedly, but it also doesn't remember the previous filepath, so huge amounts of time are wasted navigating to the next desired file as well.  A a final note, the current interface opens a window that is too small to see the file directory, so that has to be manually resized every time.

Thanks for sharing this idea. Instructure Canvas doesn't have a role in developing or changing permission configurations for Box files.

The interface you've described—searching for the file path, and viewing the file directory—sounds specific to Box as well. Would you share a screencast showing the current process of uploading a Box file to a module?

Thank you for your attention.

It’s a Canvas interface upgrade that I am looking for rather than something native to Box.

Here is a series of screenshots that will show what I mean:

1. 1. Link to an external source.1. Link to an external source.2. Access Box.2. Access Box.3. Oddly small window opens.3. Oddly small window opens.4. Resize oddly small window.4. Resize oddly small window.5. Navigate several clicks down. (Path not saved.))5. Navigate several clicks down. (Path not saved.))6. Select file to link.6. Select file to link.7. Hit "Choose," then relize you forgot to set the file permission.7. Hit "Choose," then relize you forgot to set the file permission.8. Discover that "Edit" does not allow you to reset the file permission.8. Discover that "Edit" does not allow you to reset the file permission.

That should illustrate the difficulty of linking files from Box.  I assume that it would apply to other file storage services as well.  The interface is very deep in clicks, and is totally unforgiving at the stage where one would proof for mistakes.

@PBart0

Thanks for sharing these helpful screenshots. Steps 3, 4, and 5 take place entirely in the Box interface; we are not able to change how Box presents its file directory within the window, nor how permissions are set within their product.

If you'd like to write a generic new idea focusing on the size of the modal that opens when someone adds links from an external tool, we can move that forward here.
