Filter fields customisation for Canvas Commons

We were looking into Canvas Commons and the whole system seems to be just one or two features short to provide us with everything we need to build up an Assignment database for our teachers. We tried to find material related to customising Canvas Commons filters on Google and Canvas Community and couldn't find anything, so this is why we are submitting this idea.

We are aware that Canvas Commons has a built-in tagging system, but we want our faculty to be able to search based on more than the existing filter categories (type, grade/level etc. - see attached). We'd like there to be an option to customise filter categories within our own organisation in Canvas Commons. For example, our educational institution would appreciate it if we could add subject areas as a separate filtering field with predefined subject areas for our faculty to choose from. The same would apply to a filter field for the type of assignment from a pedagogical point of view, the area that the assignment supports (orientation, subject knowledge development, pastoral care, profile building, university applications etc.).

If we were able to create and customise our own filter fields for Canvas Commons, that would be awesome!

In addition, it would be nice if the commons area would have a sort by name feature - easier to find modules when they appear alphabetical compared to how they are displayed by default

As part of the new Ideas & Themes process, all ideas in Idea Conversations were reviewed by the Product Team. Any Idea that was associated with an identified theme was moved to the new Idea & Themes space. Any Idea that was not part of the move is being marked as Archived. This will preserve the history of the conversations while also letting Community members know that Instructure will not explore the request at this time.
