Hiding grades from parents

We would like to be able to hide grades from parents during the year with the option to make them visible during specific time periods. However, we allow parent to see the content of a class year round.

It is my understanding that teachers have the ability to hide grades in their grades schemes,  however, we allow students to see their grades year round, so this option doesn't solve our problem either. 

Is it possible to hide grades from observers with the ability to turn it on during specific times??

We are new to Canvas. Just launched it for our teachers and will be launching for our students and parents in the fall. We are migrating from Powerschool Learning (formerly Haiku). In Haiku we had it set up so students could view their grades but parents could only view assignments but not specific grades. This is an important priority for our administration as we want to put the primary academic responsibility on the student since we are a high school with parents in a supporting role but not helicoptering over every grade. How can we turn off Parent Observers from viewing grades?

As part of the new Ideas & Themes process, all ideas in Idea Conversations were reviewed by the Product Team. Any Idea that was associated with an identified theme was moved to the new Idea & Themes space. Any Idea that was not part of the move is being marked as Archived. This will preserve the history of the conversations while also letting Community members know that Instructure will not explore the request at this time.
