Robust Canvas Profiles, Easily Accessible Pronoun Feature

Hi!

We are LGTV Studio, a team of User Experience Designers studying how to maximize student communication and improve online class community. Our goal this semester was to build upon the current Canvas Profile feature, in a way that is user friendly, and would encourage students to connect and network.

Robust Canvas Profiles is an improvement of Canvas’ current social tool. Our team has implemented various features for students to connect and network with one another. We believe that this tool helps them understand their classmates better and improves their desire to interact with the online community.

Of our redesigns, this submission addresses the pronoun feature. Currently, it is found under Settings, which is not obvious. While this shows up on students’ Profiles, it’s unclear at first where to change them as it’s not found in the Edit Profile section but in Settings. With this submission, we hope to redirect the pronoun feature so that it is found under Edit Profile and people have direct access to it.

We have attached a presentation that includes interview notes, reflections, and a few photos to document our static prototype redesign.

We hope you are all safe and thriving during this time of distress. We hope this can be implemented to further help our students feel connected.

Thank you for sharing this idea with the Instructure Community!

The Product Team reviewed all feature proposals recently, and unfortunately, this thread was identified as one that they would not be able to include in their current or future plans. While we appreciate your proposal, we also want to be transparent about the likelihood of something like this making it to production.

Thank you for collaborating, and we hope that you submit another idea in the future!
