Robust Canvas Profiles, Profile Alert Feature

We are LGTV Studio, a team of User Experience Designers studying how to maximize student communication and improve online class community. Our goal this semester was to build upon the current Canvas Profile feature, in a way that is user friendly, and would encourage students to connect and network.

Robust Canvas Profiles is an improvement of Canvas’ current social tool. Our team has implemented various features for students to connect and network with one another. We believe that this tool helps them understand their classmates better and improves their desire to interact with the online community.

Of our redesigns, this submission addresses a profile alert that will temporarily appear in the start of every semester. Through our research, we found that students aren’t even aware that a profile exists on Canvas, so we feel that drawing attention to the profile in general will help to boost profile awareness. With awareness being spread, our intention is that a better sense of community will be achieved because students will feel more comfortable reaching out to others and connecting.

We have attached a presentation that includes interview notes, reflections, and a few photos to document our static prototype redesign.

We hope you are all safe and thriving during this time of distress. We hope this can be implemented to further help our students feel connected.

Great idea. I hope it gets approved. I would love to see more students be aware and utilize their profiles

Thank you for sharing this idea with the Instructure Community!

The Product Team reviewed all feature proposals recently, and unfortunately, this thread was identified as one that they would not be able to include in their current or future plans. While we appreciate your proposal, we also want to be transparent about the likelihood of something like this making it to production.

Thank you for collaborating, and we hope that you submit another idea in the future!
