add items to main menu in a class

Instructors need to be able to add menu items to the main course menu in addition to the ones provide (i.e. modules, announcements, grades, etc.) in order to create a clear, easy to use course structure for students. In addition, instructors should be able to rename what is there in the menu to fit their course structure (for example, I have never taught nor seen taught a class with 'modules' in it). 

Student learning should not be sacrificed for ease of programming.

Thanks for sharing this idea. Instructors can add custom navigation items to the course menu by using the Redirect Tool in the EduApps Center; detailed instructions for adding external apps to courses are in How do I add an external app in a course?

Switching from one platform to another often involves adjusting to different terminology; the local Canvas admin can apply custom programming to make a global change to the name of the navigation tab if they determine that the term "Modules" is not consistent with how that school's courses are designed and is creating confusion among users.

We've archived this idea in light of the existing functionality.
