@studentname tag that alerts student to a post in any space (announcement, discussion etc)

When posting an announcement, reply to announcement, etc I would like to be able to use @Studentname to 'tag' a student in the message, which would give the student a notification to specifically read that message (similar to facebook or  other social messenging platforms).

Ideally a setting for enabling or disabling students to use this feature on a course-specific setting.

This is currently available with the Discussion Redesign. However, this won't include all places in a course. If you'd like to edit your proposal to feature the spaces where you'd like to see this functionality outside of Discussions (and a use case or two), that would be great! Otherwise, we can Archive your Idea.

Comments from Instructure

As part of the new Ideas & Themes process, all ideas in Idea Conversations were reviewed by the Product Team. Any Idea that was associated with an identified theme was moved to the new Idea & Themes space. Any Idea that was not part of the move is being marked as Archived. This will preserve the history of the conversations while also letting Community members know that Instructure will not explore the request at this time.
