As an adoption tool, Impact helps you streamline communication, training, engagement strategies and processes for deepening and accelerating adoption of your LMS and integrated tools. Let's take a look at the journey you will embark on with Impact with a closer look at the recommended considerations in each phase.

Phase 1 | Implementation

Impact implementation combines seamless technical and strategic approach. This includes explicit training and the development of individually relevant use cases. Within our implementation structure, we prioritize hands-on time for your team to learn about Impact while applying the tools to identify and resolve your challenges.

The timeline below outlines the nine steps that you will complete with a Learning Analytics Consultant's guidance and support. The Impact implementation process typically takes 6-8 weeks and includes up to 12 hours of data-informed adoption consulting, coaching, project management and training.

Identify your Impact Team

For Impact Implementation, you can invite up to 5 members to the kick-off meeting, it is important that the Impact project lead(s) at your institution, your IT Support Department manager, your LMS admin(s), and your Instructional Designers (if applicable) are able to attend this meeting. Consider including team members who will make decisions and/or create Impact content to support institutional processes, instructional practices, and technical support.

    • Key decision maker
    • Canvas Administrator
    • Technical Support provider
    • Instructional Support provider

Develop a Vision

Build deep understanding of how your team will use Impact aligned to teaching and learning vision and goals

    • How will Impact support your communication goals?
    • How will Impact support your engagement goals?
    • How will Impact support your training goals?

Build and Grow a Relationship

To ensure your success with Impact, you have a team at Instructure that will be supporting you with your implementation and beyond. This includes your Learning Analytics Consultant, Canvas CSM and Impact CSM. This should be viewed as a partnership. Let us know what you need help with, ideas you have for the product and ways in which we can help you get the biggest returns on your investments.

Commit to Dedicated Time

Adding any new tool requires time to develop new processes and support in order to be successful in the short and long term. An effective implementation requires at least 6 hours of synchronous meetings with your Learning Analytics Consultant, as well as some independent work in between sessions. Establishing a set schedule with recurring meetings and minimal disruptions is the best approach. Communicate your time limitations and opportunities with your LAC.

Account and Content Governance

    • Develop a roles and responsibilities process. Who is responsible for what?
    • How is content created and maintained?
    • What is the process for approving communication and content through Impact?
    • Create a process for managing content. This can be a spreadsheet or project management tool that allows you to easily see what content has been developed locally for maintenance and management purposes.

Phase 2 | Onboarding

After implementation, your Impact CSM will assist you in an onboarding experience that fits your account tier needs.

  • Strategic and enterprise accounts work with a dedicated Impact CSM where you will continue working on the use cases identified during implementation and any others that come up. You'll learn about new releases and content, and any/all important Impact information.
  • Priority Service and TechTouch accounts will receive bi-monthly resourceful emails to help support them through their first 90 days post-implementation. These accounts are also encouraged to stop by Monthly Office Hours for continued product guidance.

Also, be sure that you are signed up for the Impact Newsletter that is published monthly by our Impact CSM team. And of course, check in regularly to this Impact Blog space to get updates and tips on all things Impact.

Phase 3 | Continuous Improvement

Change is a constant and adoption of new or updated tools and features is ongoing. In order to sustain systems of support and continuous growth, it is important that your team develop practices in which you are regularly reviewing data aligned to your teaching and learning vision and goals. Impact data alone or combined with other sources of data can provide the evidence your internal and Instructure team needs to be most effective in ensuring your adoption success.

You'll also want to give attention to the following areas:

  • Maintaining your Account
  • Maintaining Content
  • Documenting Your Impact
  • Open Communication

Whether it be with internal colleagues or with your Instructure team, open and honest communication is vital to ensure continuous successful adoption of new features and tools. Analyzing data and making informed decisions using Impact requires the voice of all key stakeholders. By having an open line of communication with both your internal and Instructure team, members will have an avenue to share new ideas, express concerns, suggest new product features, and build upon the adoption successes your team has already achieved.
