Have you ever wished there was a resource you could reference when setting up a Canvas course? Well, good news...now there is one! The Training Services department shared all of their collective experiences working in education and training clients for years to build this collaborative resource that instructors will hopefully find useful referencing when creating their courses in Canvas.

Potential Uses of the Checklists

  • Review the Beginning-of-Course checklist to ensure your course is ready to publish for students

  • Reference the End-of-Course checklist to help wrap up your course before the term concludes

  • Share with your colleagues so they can also benefit from the checklists

That is awesome thank you. We have a small rubric for a minimum standards as well you might be interested in. It's shared in Commons called Canvas Standards Course Analysis - not a beginning and end, but one of those tools we are using to assist our staff with consistency.

Saved this gem! Thank you ewasson@instructure.com. How has it been received?

ewasson@instructure.com Thank you! This is exactly what we were looking for as a guide for our teachers. I have edited the document, and added some items that are specific to our campus. I also re-ordered the items so they are a little more sequential in nature. This is just the first iteration: Sign in - Google Accounts

Thanks for sharing this.

Now that the New Gradebook is on by default, I would just suggest minor updates to the "Export Grades" item in your end of course checklist, and hyperlinking to these instructions from the Canvas Instructor Guide:

How do I export grades in the New Gradebook?

About the Author
I came from the world of K12 education before becoming a Canvas Trainer for Instructure. I was a technology and instructional coach, a Canvas mentor, a school Admin in Canvas and a Video Production, Science and Social Studies teacher in the middle grades. I have a BA degree in History and a MA degree in Instructional Design and Technology from the University of Central Florida. I am passionate about blending instructional design methods, pedagogy and technology integration to make classroom content more accessible, relevant and engaging for students. I live in Grand Rapids, Michigan and work remotely as a CSM. I am so excited to be part of a company with a solid vision and unparalleled support for their clients. I enjoy being part of a team who builds product knowledge and confidence for our Canvas community. My early experiences with Canvas were as a graduate student and then as a teacher who utilized Canvas to support and enhance classroom instruction. After struggling through several other LMS products, I realized I had finally found the one that would make the biggest impact on my instructional practices. Canvas helped me create a more open, yet structured learning environment for my students and I knew I had to spread my enthusiasm to other teachers, schools and districts! In my spare time, I love to travel and explore new places. I enjoy all types of music, especially alternative and rock, and have been to over 150 concerts in the past ten years. I went on a Walking Dead cruise last year (I survived!) and I have a healthy obsession with all things Halloween and zombies. I also like comics, conventions and superheroes. And I am a huge Michigan football fan...Go Blue!
