This behavior has been resolved and deployed to the production environment as of 5/21/25.
When creating a new subject from a homeroom course in Canvas for elementary, available homeroom courses do not populate the dropdown menu for homeroom selection.
Homeroom courses where the teacher is enrolled and are not concluded should be populate the dropdown menu for homeroom selection when creating a new subject from the dashboard.
No workaround exists at this time.
Prerequisite: Have a sub-account with Canvas for elementary enabled.
Create a new course and enable it as a homeroom course and publish.
Add a teacher to the course.
Check in the courses API that the workflow state is “available”.
Act as the teacher and navigate to “Home”
Inspect network traffic and select “Start a new subject”
Note that a GET request is made “/api/v1/users/self/courses?homeroom=true&per_page=100” and the response includes valid results.
Check the checkbox “Sync enrollments and subject start/end dates from homeroom“.
Select the dropdown for homeroom selection and note that no results are populating.
