Creating announcements always defaults allow comments to be on even if unchecked upon creation

Canvas

This behavior has been resolved and deployed to the production environment as of 11/6/24.

Description

  • After creating an announcement with the setting to allow comments unchecked, the setting is still being enabled upon creation of the announcement.

    • Make sure your course settings allow you to comment on announcements

    • This also appears to only occur when you attach available from/to dates to the announcement as well.

Expected Behavior

That the state of the checkbox for allowing comments to actually be retained correctly when creating a new announcement.

Workaround

No workaround exists at this time.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create a new announcement in a course making sure to add available from/to dates and leave the checkbox “Allow Participants to Comment” unchecked

  2. Edit your newly created announcement

  3. Notice the checkbox for allowing participants to comment has become checked.
