[OPEN] Course pacing can incorrectly set due dates after a weekend if the due date falls on a friday depending on the users enrollment creation time

Canvas

Engineers are currently investigating the issue.

Description

  • Course pacing is showing a different due date than what the student is seeing on the modules page in the following circumstance:

    • The number of days for an offset in course pacing results in a due date which lands on a Friday

    • You enroll the students to the course on the same day as the course starts but after the day changes in GMT

Expected Behavior

  • Course pacing dates should match the assignments due dates

Workaround

No workaround exists at this time.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create a course with a start date of today and enable course pacing

  2. Check the time in UTC and if the date is not showing up as tomorrow wait till after

    1. This would be any time between 5pm and Midnight for MST.

  3. Enroll students into the course

  4. Create some assignments and modules in the course

  5. Setup a course pace for the assignments with at least one offset which would result in a due date on a Friday

  6. Navigate to the modules as the student

  7. Notice the due date which was supposed to be on a Friday will be for the Monday after.
