[OPEN] New Analytics is displaying blank page to teachers who have section limited participation

Canvas

Engineers are currently investigating the issue.

Description

If an instructor has section participation set to “only view students in their assigned course section(s)”, New Analytics will fail to load “Course average” & “Students” pages resulting in a blank page due to a javascript error in the background.

Expected Behavior

New analytics should still display data relevant to their section for teachers while section visibility is limited for their enrollment.

  • Or show a warning that the limited visibility is why the data is not showing up instead of the entire page failing to load.

Workaround

No workaround exists at this time.

Steps to Reproduce

Prerequisite: Have a course with a teacher and at least 3 student enrollments with existing New Analytics data generated.

  1. Act as the teacher and check that New Analytics is available for your current course and note that Course average and students loads properly.

  2. Navigate to the teachers course user details page.

  3. Select “Limit this user to only see fellow section users”

  4. Acting as the teacher navigate to New Analytics.

  5. Note that “Course Average” loads and displays briefly before resulting in a blank screen.

  6. Refresh the page and quickly select “Students” and note that the same behavior applies to the “Students” tab in New Analytics.
