[OPEN] New Quiz Stimulus are being made too narrow by questions with a lot of content

Issue Documented: 2025-10-01
Canvas

Engineers are currently investigating the issue.

Description

When using New Quizzes Stimulus with questions to the right, the stimulus boundary is being pushed more narrower by questions with larger content, when the quiz is previewed or taken by students.

Expected Behavior

Stimulus and questions should remain in equal sized columns for side by side options.

Workaround

Changing to “questions below” will allow the stimuli content to preserve its sizing while allowing questions the space to show.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create a course

  2. Create a New Quiz

  3. Add a Stimulus question

    1. Add any title and content, but videos are the easiest content to see the issue with.

    2. Set questions to be to the right of the Stimulus

  4. Attach a question to the stimulus

    1. The more content the question has the more pronounced the issue will appear.

  5. Preview quiz

    1. Depending on the question, you should notice the stimulus box is smaller and making it harder to see the video or content in the stimulus.
