This behavior has been resolved and deployed to the production environment as of 10/15/25.
After the first character is entered into RCE in a New Quiz Essay question, the textbox loses focus and becomes unresponsive to further typing until manually clicking back in it.
The focus area shouldn’t change during typing
No workaround exists at this time.
Prerequisites: Have a course and a New Quiz with an Essay question
Open the preview of the quiz or act as a student and open the quiz
Start typing in the textbox of the Essay question
Notice how the focus moved away from the textbox after the first character
