[OPEN] Reopening a timed New Quiz submission gives the student the full time limit

Canvas

Engineers are currently investigating the issue.

Description

If you setup a New Quiz that has a time limit and a student takes their attempt and submits before the time limit is up and the teacher then reopens it for them, they are given the full duration of the reopened attempt instead of the time that remained from their original attempt.

Expected Behavior

The student should only see the time that remained from their first attempt when they enter the reopened Quiz.

Workaround

No workaround exists at this time.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create a New Quiz with a time limit (a few minutes works for testing this).

  2. As a student, take the New Quiz and submit before the time limit is up.

  3. Reopen the Quiz for the student from the Moderate tab.

  4. Click ‘Resume’ as the student and notice that the timer gives you the full original duration of the attempt instead of starting where you left off at time of original submission.
