Recent announcements on homeroom do not show by default for teachers that also have a student role

Canvas

This behavior has been resolved and deployed to the production environment as of 11/25/24.

Description

When a teacher has a student role in another course, they see the +Announcement button on their Homeroom dashboard when there are recent announcements that should display. To see those recent announcements they have to use the arrow to toggle back to those announcements.

Expected Behavior

Teachers with student enrollments should see the recent announcements on their homeroom dashboard default instead of needing to toggle back to see them

Workaround

No workaround exists at this time.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create a course in an account with Canvas 4 Elementary enabled and set the course as a homeroom

  2. Enroll a user as a teacher in the homeroom course and as a student in a separate course

  3. As the teacher, create an announcement in the homeroom course

  4. View the homeroom dashboard and notice that the new announcement is not visible and you see a button to create a new announcement
