What is the Canvas FastTrack Video Series?

Traffic Jam-200.pngSince Canvas was founded, in 2011, administrators have taken many different approaches to how they rollout Canvas at their institutions. There is not one perfect "one size fits all" way for everyone to implement Canvas and garner the attention and engagement to which most aspire.

The "Canvas FastTrack Video Series" is a quick video guide for teachers to help with the alignment of Canvas tools with SAMR and the ways to perpetually increase user engagement! For the next 40 days we will present a new 2 1/2 minute video to the Community starting with the Substitution level of SAMR. Everyone is encouraged to reply and share their personal insight, experiences, and advice.

These are useful and quick videos and exactly a strategy I often recommend to instructors to inform and engage students in their online courses. Thank you to the folks who are working on these!

I agree, the videos are very nice! The short videos are a great length to engage users and open the conversation on a topic. It would be nice if we were able to grab the embed code of these videos so we add them easily into Canvas pages. It was something that can be done with the Canvas Guide videos in Vimeo, but I don't see the options with these.

Thanks for the feedback. They are being uploaded weekly to YouTube. So if you have YouTube access you can embed from there!

We will see what we can do with Vimeo down the road.

 @tankovpa ​ It is a playlist under the CanvasLMS Youtube Channel. This link should take you directly there, only the first five are up, the next five will be up next week, expect about a half week delay from the Community to YouTube.

Could you please upload your captions to YouTube? Right now it is "auto-generated" which won't allow us to use these for our 113 colleges.

If you aren't able to caption these, can we download the videos and upload them to our own YouTube account with captions we type out?

Thanks for the feedback! I will reach out to our Social Media department about captioning on YouTube, in the meantime, feel free to download them and share them on your own YouTube Channel with Captioning.  In the spirit of openness here at Instructure, the more visibility the better. Smiley Happy  I believe our YouTube delay is about a week.

Was there a reason that Eps 11-20 were not included in the uploads to Youtube? I found several of them to be very helpful and wanted to included them, via embedding, in some PD, but they are not in the Fast Track playlist. Ep 1-10 and 21-30 are there, which I am very glad are there and have been able to include them. I was just hoping the others would be there as well.

Thank you so much for reaching out, our social media team just got the videos last week.  So hopefully this week they will get those missing items up.

Deep apologies for the delay, we got a little behind the mark on the uploads to YouTube. Smiley Happy   On an exciting note, there will be more videos coming to the series in late July for Parents, Students and more ideas on Canvas & SAMR.

I agree with many of the previous comments! This was a GREAT starting point for me as a new Canvas Admin....especially when there are SO MANY resources to get up and running. Specifically, the ideas for integration or use of the canvas platform will be extremely beneficial for teachers to start thinking of new ways to design instruction. I will definitely be leveraging these videos for teachers who are eager to explore using Canvas in their classrooms. Now I am off to check out your Fast Track Admin Series! Thank you for putting these resources together!

I am first time in this community. Very early in Canvas familiarization. Perplexed at the use of, what I assume, is the acronym, SAMR, without an initial definition of what SAMR stands for. Yes, I am aware that with html it is possible to provide a definition via a popup. Or a link to the precise definition could be provided. These of technique are not employed in the above example. This is, dare I use VERY, unfriendly to a new user. Bang STOP.

Must define this term, it is important. I used Apple "look up Reference." It returned the reference to the Samaritan alphabet. Hummm, I don't believe that is correct, is it? To leverage some humor here (because I realize my frustration is bleeding through), in the Star Trek Original Series the often quoted Dr McCoy character says "Damn it, Jim, I'm a doctor, not a ......." Ha! I am a Doctor but not the kind that understands this acronym. 

IF, I did this in a manuscript for publication, or an English 101 essay, it would prompt a REJECT or Considerably lower score. That is unless the audience was very narrow and in this case the manuscript would guide the authors and readers of accepted acronyms. I suppose I need to hunt down said accepted acronyms for this community. Not.

Conclusion. This, my initial attempt to learn from Instructure's user community. This first dive into the pool of knowledge has resulted in a 'lower score' impression. Fast Track to Learning requires some unstated level of prowess with previous knowledge. Yikes! Or this is simply a carless condensing look down the nose at newbies.

What is the citation for the original "Dr. Puentedura’s SAMR Model of Technology Integration", as I have discovered is what is referred to in the above article, to correct this 'borrowing' of intellectual work of scholarship with out crediting the originating author? I find this, but this does not seem to be a peer reviewed publication and I would like to read the publication.

I like these videos. Neat little tricks and ideas with the calender as well. I actually done it with mine and kept from having to repeat calenders. Thanks!
