How do I configure tools and accommodations for individual formative assessments?
Item-based Enhanced accommodation (EA) assessments have several tools and accommodation features for students to use during the Mastery Connect assessment experience. Teachers can manage these tools at the individual assessment level or at the tracker level.
Notes:
- If you make changes to the tools and accommodations on an active assessment, any students currently taking the assessment need to log out and back in to see the changes.
- In the Assessments list, assessments that support the enhanced accommodations feature display an EA indicator.
- Tools and accommodations must be enabled in your district at the administrative level.
- If a district enables the Respondus LockDown Browser at implementation or through a request to their Customer Success Manager, users will be able to enable the use of Respondus for students taking EA formative assessments.
- Text-to-speech is not available for document-based assessments. Students who require text-to-speech for a document-based assessment should use a native OS screen reader such as VoiceOver for Mac or JAWS for Windows.
Open Tracker
In Global Navigation menu, click the Trackers tab [1] and then click the tracker name link [2].
Open Standard
Click the Students tab [1]. Then, in the Student View, click the title of the standard that contains the assessment [2].
Open Assess Window
Locate the assessment and click the Assess tab.
Configure Tools and Accommodations
If the district administrator has allowed tools and accommodations for your assessment, the buttons in the Tools and Accommodations section display the status of each tool and accommodation [1]. By default, the available tools and accommodations are set according to the tracker-level tools and accommodations.
A shaded button indicates the tool or accommodation is active in the assessment [2].
An unshaded button indicates the tool or accommodation is not active in the assessment [3].
To allow a tool or accommodation, click the item's button [4].

Select Calculator
To add a basic, extended, or scientific calculator to the assessment, click the Calculator button [1]. Then click the Basic, Extended, or Scientific toggle (s) on [2].
Select Paid Calculator
If your district purchased the Desmos calculators or a paid state calculator subscription, you can enable one of these calculators.
To enable a Desmos calculator, click the Desmos Calculator button [1]. Then to select the Desmos Four Function, the Desmos Scientific, the Desmos Graphing, or the Desmos Matrix option click a toggle on [2].
If your district purchased a state calculator, the state calculator options display.
Select Ruler Length
To add a ruler to the assessment, click the Ruler button [1], then to select a rule length, click a Ruler Length toggle on [2].
Enable Item-Level Tools
If tools were added as a feature to an item during the item authoring process, they are enabled by default. To disable them, click the Include question level tools toggle.
Restore Defaults
To restore the default settings that were configured for all assessments on the tracker, click the Restore Default button.
