FAQ: Retiring Mastery Connect Inbox, Resource Pins & Playlists, and Student Class Activity

This document addresses the upcoming retirement of three Mastery Connect features in July 2025. This change is part of our ongoing commitment to providing the best platform for standards-based assessment and focusing our resources on core functionalities that drive improved student outcomes
General Questions
What features are being retired and when?
The following Mastery Connect features will be retired by early July 2025:
- Teacher & Administrator Inbox
- Resources Pins & Playlists
- Student Class Activity
Why are these features being retired?
These features were identified as having low usage and/or duplicating functionality available in other, more frequently accessed areas of Mastery Connect. Retiring them allows us to:
- Focus our development efforts on core assessment features
- Streamline the user experience
- Allocate resources more effectively to drive continuous innovation
Feature-Specific Questions
Teacher & Administrator Inbox
What was the Teacher & Administrator Inbox used for?
It allowed educators to directly message each other within Mastery Connect.
Why is it being retired?
Usage was low, and direct communication is more effectively handled through existing district tools or Learning Management Systems (LMS), like Canvas.
What are the alternatives?
For Canvas users, the Canvas Inbox is the recommended alternative. For other districts, please use your standard district communication tools.
Resources Pins & Playlists
What were Resources Pins & Playlists used for?
Resource Pins allowed educators to align non-assessment learning artifacts to standards, and Playlists allowed them to group and share these resources.
Why are they being retired?
Usage was low and they did not directly support core assessment functionalities.
Are there any direct alternatives within Mastery Connect or Canvas?
Currently, there are no direct alternatives within Mastery Connect or Canvas.
Student Class Activity
What was the Student Class Activity page?
It displayed assessments in order of recent changes within each class in the Student Portal.
Why is it being retired?
To streamline the student experience, as the same information and actions are available on other student pages.
What are the alternatives for students?
Students can access assessments through:
- Student Home Page
- Student Class Assessments page
- Student Progress page
