As the new school year begins, here are a few quick setup tasks to help your district run smoothly in Mastery Connect. At the end of this post, there is a link to a resource document that will show you how to complete each of these tasks.
1. Restrict Tracker Creation: We recommend district admins configure their Mastery Connect account to prevent teachers from creating trackers until rostering data is accurate and uploaded.
2. Set District-Approved Pathways: District admins should consider restricting available learning cores for maps, trackers, and assessments to pre-selected, district-approved standards.
3. Confirm Scale Levels: It is important to ensure your district uses the correct three or four-tier mastery scale, as changes mid-year can disrupt data and require recreation of materials.
4. Set a Support Contact: We recommend that admins add school or district support contact information, visible to users via the "?" icon in Mastery Connect. (Admin tab > Manage > Support Contact)
5. Update User Roles: Only district administrators can assign school or district admin roles. Edit roles via the "Manage Teachers" tool for users needing elevated permissions.
6. Verify School Assignments: To ensure data is reported correctly, assign teachers to their accurate school location before they create trackers. This organizes and filters all Mastery Connect data and reports by the teacher's school.
7. Share Expectations with Staff: Make sure your teachers know when to start creating trackers and which tools/methods they should use.
8. What to do if you run into a problem? Remember to first check the help documentation, then refer to your district’s processes and then get help from your district’s technical contact accessible from the “?” icon in the top, right-hand corner of Mastery Connect. If none of those help, contact Mastery Connect support.
