We are deploying Canvas Credentials and have built pathways with suitable badges. I have set the course badges with trigger assignments within the courses and subscribes the course to the pathway if relevant.
We have many teachers in the same course, and wish to have the badges only be deployed awarded via the trigger assignments that we (admins) set up. In our current setting, teachers are able to edit the badges, and the triggers for them in each course.
The settings that I have added in to each course via the credentials admin tab are as follows, If anyone is able to provide advice on how to limit this ability for teachers to edit anything to do with credentials (we want them to only have the ability to review student progress of badges and pathways) I'd be very grateful.
Hi Emily,
Unfortunately, this is by design. The teacher role in Canvas is passed when the Credentials LTI is launched, and the user is given a group (course) level staff permission. This permission allows them to edit the badge trigger requirements, or set up new badges to be awarded from within the selected Issuer.
It does make oversight difficult when teachers are granted these permissions wholesale. I agree, a setting that could be used at an administrative level to prevent changes from being made by teachers could make Credentials more useful in more use cases.
