Learning Services is pleased to announce the release of a new partnership course, Packback: Instructional AI in Action, developed by Packback. The course has been added to the On-Demand Training Portal on June 4, 2025.
Packback enables educators to improve student curiosity, engagement, and critical thinking through highly structured writing and discussion. Packback aims to meet students where they are by prioritizing transparent, real-time AI-powered writing and discussion feedback, allowing each student to be fairly evaluated based on the quality of their ideas. They have partnered with Instructure to create an engaging training course that can be accessed from the On-Demand Training Portal. Institutions with an Essentials, Standard, or Premium subscription to the On-Demand Training Portal will have access to this course (learn more about available subscription levels). For information on accessing a partnership course in the portal, please see the Partnership Program Launch Blog post.
Packback’s course trains portal users on Packback’s suite of products: Discussions, Writing, Writing Lab, and Originality. Each of these tools provide students with powerful AI-powered feedback on originality and writing and discussion skills. For instructors, these tools take some of the burden out of grading, offering automated grading assistance that is informed by the assignment rubric. The course includes a series of Modules with written content, images, and videos.
Upon completion of this course, a verifiable, digital badge is awarded so learners can showcase a credential as evidence of learning. This course provides in depth information and use cases of this tool for those looking for a deeper application. This course offers value to existing users by diving behind the curtains of the pedagogical philosophies and methodologies that Packback is built upon. Part of this course explains how Bloom’s 2 Sigma Problem and Self-Determination Theory are used and leveraged to create a tool that not only streamlines the learning process for both students and instructors, but is also built upon the science of how students want to learn.
By the end of the course, learners will be able to:
Packback's Write tool and Instant Feedback.
