What's Blooming with Growing with Canvas?

Course Updates and More!

One of the great things about Canvas is that it is always growing and changing to better meet the needs of its users. That being said, in an effort to keep the content in the Growing with Canvas course aligned with the latest resources in the Canvas Community and provide users with an enhanced learning experience, the course has undergone a recent update. In this blog post, we will explore what has changed in the course and how you can leverage it to elevate your knowledge about Canvas.

What’s New?

The updated version of the Growing with Canvas course includes embedded Canvas Community Guides along with content highlighting key features, as well as providing links to additional helpful resources.

Instructure Updates (Updates from 08/04/2025)

Recently, we have been working to make improvements to the Growing with Canvas course to ensure you have the best learning experience possible.

First, we have gone through and fixed several broken links that popped up due to recent updates to the Community Guides. Everything should now be pointing to the right place, so you can easily access all the resources you need.

Second, the information about the free version of Canvas Badges has been replaced with details solely based on the use of Canvas Credentials. This is because the free version of Canvas Badges will no longer be available. We want to make sure you have the most current and accurate information about your credentialing options within Canvas.

We hope these updates make your journey though the Growing with Canvas course even smoother!

Where are the videos? (Previous Update)

For those familiar with the previous versions of the Growing with Canvas course, you may notice that it no longer features embedded videos from the Canvas Community. This change allows users to access the most up-to-date information and resources directly from the Canvas Community Guides, which may now include “Canvas Shorts” videos embedded within the guide themselves, providing a more comprehensive learning experience.

The videos that were previously embedded within the course, along with additional video content, may still be accessed within the Canvas Community Video Guides, though some may not reflect the latest updates. These resources may be leveraged as you see fit, along with all the amazing resources in the Community. The Canvas Video links spreadsheet is available to access links and embed codes as needed. Please be aware that some videos may be updated or made shorts that are embedded in the guides, while some may be archived as they become outdated.

This entire experience was achievable for me through the use of the sandbox.  I know that I am both a visual and hands-on learner.  Keep this feature!

Thank you.

The videos were useful. The tasks at the last module were not clear enough as how to wrap up the final step.

I liked Sandbox but found the ending portion of the course was hard to follow and it was difficult to finish.

It is highly interactive, provides practical resources, gives immediate feedback, and provides critical information for the student/teacher. It also provides invaluable continuing learning experience.

Moving to Canvas from a different LMS is like learning another language.  Some of my more experienced colleagues have reassured me that the initial challenges fade away as one becomes more experienced.  I look forward to that time.

Our new faculty have said this "Growing with Canvas course" is very helpful, especially the tutorial videos. However, I noticed a message on each video, stating it is set to expire in December 2025.  What will happen to this great course, if all the videos disappear?  Are there any plans for us Canvas Admins to embed new videos?

Thank you!

Heather

Good afternoon,

Many links in this course are broken as the original Instructure pages have been deleted. Are there plans to fix this?

@heather_monti - As of the 8/1/2024 Growing with Canvas course update, the videos had been removed from the course. This change allows users to ensure they are always accessing the most up-to-date information and resources directly from the Canvas Community Guides. Many guides now include “Canvas Shorts” videos embedded within the guide themselves, providing a more comprehensive learning experience. If the course that you have still has the videos, that is not the most up-to date version of the course. Please refer to the information in the blog above on how to access the updated version of the Growing with Canvas course.

@JordanGarciaNAU - In regards to the broken links that you mentioned, could you please provide an example so that we can look into that further? I am wondering if the version of the course that you are referencing is the updated version or an older version.

Thank you for your response.  I looked in Commons and saw many Growing with Canvas courses. Which one is the most current version?
