I am receiving the error message "Error unable to transmit file to the storage service. The service may be down or you may need to re-log in to Canvas." while trying to upload a google doc from my google drive into Canvas under Files.
I have tried re-logging in and disabling extensions in chrome. Recieved the same error in an incognito window. I tried in firefox where there are no extensions and received the same error.
Google docs will attach when creating assignments or other posts, but not in files.
I can view google docs within Canvas through the google drive LTI tool.
What causes this error? I'm sure Canvas is meant to be able to upload google docs into the Files area. Correct?
I am having the same problem. Though Word docs from the same folder will move into "My Files" Gdocs, Gsheets etc. will not
I suspect the issue is that documents created using the Google Apps such as Google Docs exist in the cloud, they don't exist as files that can be downloaded or 'stored' in other platforms such as Canvas' Files. They can only be linked to, such as the assignment you mentioned. This cloud-type document allows for online synchronous collaboration and sharing.
If you want to place a Google Doc in your Canvas Files, you would first have to either convert it to a file such as a .docx file or .txt file. Or you could download it as such and then upload it.
The reason Word docs come through is that a Word doc in Google Drive is just that, a .docx file that is simply stored in Google Drive, it's not a .gdoc file.
