We have students who were deleted from courses (not dropped) in our SIS (Skyward) and their enrollment is still appearing in the Canvas course.
Because our enrollments are shared with Canvas via Skyward, only account admins can delete students from courses. Because these are deletions, there is not a log/report that can be created from Skyward to identify the students who were deleted from the course in Skyward. This means we must rely on teachers to report that students who are not in their class anymore are in the Canvas course so one of the Canvas account admins can go in a delete the student...which is a tedious process for all involved.
Thoughts? Suggestions on how to efficiently correct this?
how can I sign back up for my course
Did you ever find a solution to this problem? We are having the same issue with our SIS ID imports from Infinite Campus. This is our 2nd year with that SIS and didn't know to turn our sync off over the summer, so it continued placing students in classes as counselors changed many schedules, but did not remove them from the classes that they were switched out of. For the fall semester, we had teachers go through and remove/conclude students who were still in their Canvas Courses, but not in their IC/SIS Courses, but it is time consuming. I am looking for a better way to fix our 2nd semester, since we have a little more time. And, we have it set so that it won't sync next year's courses until right before students return, so we wont have this problem in the future.
We were able to drill down and figure out why students were not removed from Canvas when they were removed in SIS. Our counselors deleted the enrollments, instead of adding an end date, so the enrollment continued in Canvas because there was nothing that unenrolled them, they were just no longer linked to that course in Infinite Campus. We have mitigated the issue for next year, we will not start our sync until the day teachers return and then after school starts, our counselors will add an end date to classes in Infinite Campus when they remove a student so that it makes them inactive in Canvas.
