At Instructure, we believe your input is essential to building the best possible experience. Right now, we’re focusing on an exciting project – redesigning the Canvas Catalog Detailed Listing Page. Since this page is a key part of how you explore and engage with content, we want to ensure it aligns with your needs and expectations. Your feedback will help us create a design that works for you!

We’ve created several design options, and now it’s your turn to weigh in. Please share your thoughts by October 20th to make sure your voice is heard and considered in the final design. Your feedback will directly influence the future look and feel of this page, helping us create something that’s both beautiful and functional.

What are we aiming for?

The goal of the redesign is to:

  • Improve usability: We want to make it easier for you to find and interact with key details at a glance.
  • Enhance visual appeal: The page should not only be useful but also visually pleasing and aligned with modern design trends.
  • Optimize for speed: Faster load times and seamless navigation.

How can you help?

We’ve come up with a few different design options, each focusing on different aspects of the user experience, such as navigation, layout, and content prioritization. Now we want your opinion! Here’s how you can share your thoughts:

  1. Preview the designs: LINK HERE
  2. Tell us what you think: Once you’ve checked out the designs, let us know which version resonates with you. Share what you like, what could be improved, and any other ideas you have. SURVEY HERE
  3. Be part of the future: Your insights will help shape the final design, making sure it works for everyone.

Key questions to consider:

  • How easy is it to navigate through the information?
  • Do you feel the layout highlights the most important content?
  • Is there anything missing that you think would enhance the user experience?
  • How important would it be for you to customize aspects of the page, such as color or width?
  • Are there any features that you find unnecessary or distracting?

Your feedback = Better design

We believe in designing with you, not just for you. This is your opportunity to influence a key part of our platform and make sure it’s working in ways that help you achieve your goals faster and more effectively.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. Together, we can create something that’s truly exceptional!

Hi @matekiss! I noticed that the previews are using the Store Theme. How would the changes in the Detailed Listings page show for catalogs not using the Store Theme build? Knowing this information will help me better answer the survey. Thanks!

Hello @rpsloan,

Thank you for your question!

Currently, we are not planning to make any design changes to the old storefront. The updates and improvements will only be applied to the new storefront using the Store Theme build. Catalogs not using the Store Theme will retain their existing design and layout for the time being on the Detailed Listings page.

Let me know if you need any further clarification or if I can assist with anything else!

@matekiss Do you have any dates in mind for when the layout for the listing page and storefront will be required to use the store theme build rather than us customizing it on our own?

Same question as @jsowalsk@matekiss, you mentioned, "Catalogs not using the Store Theme will retain their existing design and layout for the time being on the Detailed Listings page." Is there a timeline for when store theme build get reinforced?

Hello @jsowalsk , @rpsloan

We won’t require you to adopt the new Theme build until administrators can enable or disable the Storefront on a per-subcatalog basis, overriding root admin settings.

Additionally, we need to explore how to offer the option for administrators to use both the Theme Editor and direct CSS/JS customization, allowing them the flexibility to choose or combine these tools based on their preferences.

These tasks are currently planned for the second half of 2025, so no action will be needed from your side until they are developed. Kata has shared all requests related to the new Storefront with me, and I understand there are several smaller requests among them. Once we begin delving into this topic, I’ll reach out to you to prioritize those requests.

Thank you @matekiss. I submitted feedback that I would like to see the ability for css/js customization in addition to the store theme so I'm glad you mentioned that and that it's being explored.
