Dear Canvas Credentials Community,

Imagine a Tuesday morning in a busy office. A program lead gets ready for review and types “Communication” into the badge list search. Three versions surface: Oral Communication, Communication Skills, Professional Communication. Which one is the right one, where is it used, and does any of it match what employers ask for?

When many issuers across an institution create badges on their own, skills drift. The same idea appears under different names, critical competencies get over or under used, and no one can easily tell which skills are actually showing up in badges or how that maps to employer demand. Canvas Credentials (soon to be called Parchment Digital Badges) is changing that.

We are introducing a unified Skills experience that brings together Organizational skills and the full TalentNeuron default taxonomy. The goal is simple: make skills visible, comparable, and actionable, so badge design aligns with curriculum goals and the labor market.

What’s changing?

A new Skills Hub gathers all skills into one searchable home. Each skill has a focused page that shows real usage inside your institution and in the market. You can see which badges use it, how widely it appears across programs, and how employers value it right now through TalentNeuron insights. Admins can export the aligned badge list for quick reviews and analysis.

Why this matters?

Back to our program lead. In the Skills Hub, they see where Communication already appears, which badges use it, and a clear rise in employer demand with related roles. They choose the right skill, retire the duplicates, borrow proven criteria from the strongest badge, and publish with confidence.

That afternoon, the committee receives an export that shows alignment across programs. Admissions and career services turn the same view into a simple story for partners. Learners earn a badge that uses employer language. Decisions move from opinion to evidence. Authoring speeds up. Governance becomes a habit, not a cleanup.

What to expect

We are rolling this out in three phases in Q3. Stay tuned for exact dates.

  • Skills Menu in Canvas Credentials (soon to be Parchment Digital Badges): a single place to search, sort, and filter Organizational and TalentNeuron skills, so issuers start from a shared vocabulary.

  • Individual Skill Pages: a focused page for each skill that shows institutional usage and TalentNeuron insights like demand and related roles, so teams can compare and choose with context.

  • Aligned Badges on Skill Pages: a clear list of every badge tied to a skill with export for admins and issuers, so reviews, audits, and curriculum mapping take minutes, not weeks.

Looking Ahead

This foundation in Canvas Credentials (soon to be Parchment Digital Badges) sets the stage for stronger skills governance, smarter badge portfolios, and future enhancements like de-duplication guidance and policy workflows. Your skills story will stay consistent over time, even as programs evolve.

Thank you for being part of the Canvas Credentials community.

Your feedback shaped this work. We are excited to deliver a skills experience that is clearer, faster, and trusted by employers.

That’s it for now. But your skills? They’re just getting aligned.

See you in the Skills Hub.

– The Canvas Credentials Team
