Welcome to the next edition of the Prompt Spotlight Series, where we feature real prompts submitted by Ask Your Data users – prompts we think are worth exploring.

These questions have caught our attention for a variety of reasons: they’re frequently asked, especially timely, or offer a fresh way to look at Canvas data. We share them to inspire curiosity, experimentation, and conversation within the Intelligent Insights community.

✳️ User Prompt

"Give me the list of users with an Observer role who created their account after Aug 1 2025, but have not verified their email address."

Why This Caught Our Eye

With a new term kicking off, many institutions are onboarding a wave of new Observer accounts – often parents, guardians, or mentors. This prompt highlights a very practical need: making sure these users can actually access the platform. Identifying unverified emails early helps reduce login frustrations, ensures timely communication, and ultimately supports a smoother start-of-term experience for families and students alike.

Ways to Adapt or Extend

  • Adjust the date filter to track onboarding progress during different terms or registration waves.
  • Add course or subaccount filters to narrow the list to specific schools, programs, or grade levels.
  • Include last login data to see if unverified users are still trying to access the system.
  • Expand the query to other roles (like students or instructors) to catch broader onboarding or communication gaps.
