Video overviews reflect current feature functionality in Canvas; they are updated based on workflow changes, not on minor or non-functional interface enhancements. Depending on your institution's Canvas theme, the Canvas interface may display differently than shown in this video, but the functionality is the same.
Theme Editor (Admins) Video Script
In this video, you will learn about Canvas themes and the Theme Editor.
To open the Themes page, click the Admin link in Global Navigation and click the name of an account. In Account Navigation, click the Themes link. At the top of the page, you will see available default templates. Default templates are used as a starting point for you to create your own themes. The current theme is noted with a border and text.
Custom themes added to your account display in the My Themes section. To open and view the details of any theme, hover over the theme and click the Open in Theme Editor button. To delete a saved theme, click the Delete icon. Note that default themes cannot be deleted.
To create a new theme, open and modify a default template, or click the Add Theme button and select a template from the menu. In the Theme Editor you will see the sidebar, the preview window, and the Save and Apply theme buttons. In the Edit tab in the Sidebar, there are four component groups: Global Branding, Global Navigation, Watermarks & Other Images, and Login Screen. Each group contains customizable branding components. To locate and edit theme components, click a group header in the sidebar. To make changes to a color component, enter a valid CSS color code into the text box. In browsers that support native color inputs, you can use the color selector to choose a color. Click the box of the color you want to change. The color selector displays in a new window. Select the desired color to update the component. To upload an image, click the Select Image link within the appropriate component and select an image on your computer. If custom overrides are enabled and required, click the Upload tab and select your custom CSS or JavaScript files for upload. These files apply to all pages for the account. You can use custom override files along with the Theme Editor options. Click the Preview your changes button to see your changes. To save your theme, click the Save theme button. Enter a name for your theme and click the Save theme button. To apply the new theme to your account, click the Apply theme button. To exit the theme and return to the Themes page, click the Exit button.
