We are using Open-Up Math for grades 6-8: Open Up Resources - Mathematics They have recently created Canvas courses that are available for import. There are some design challenges (content pages were created instead of assignments so you have to create an assignment to allow for students submission); however, the content itself is high quality.

We have been using the Accordion code for quite a while but it is no longer working. Has anyone else run into this problem? Does anyone have a solution? Our classes are getting ready to start 8/28 and teachers who have created a lot of pages with accordions are starting to worry they are going to have to completely reformat their courses. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Christy

Thanks Michelle! That is definitely a great and easy fix. Unfortunately the course I'm currently working on will have a lot of inexperienced contributors and I worry this will frustrate them (having to remember to add the home link to each module). But it could definitely work in other courses I design. I've seen a few threads asking for a sticky menu...maybe one day it will happen thanks again for the idea!

Hey Michelle! Do you have a workaround for having to scroll back up to "Home" when the modules page is extremely long? I often use a Table of Contents page also, but for the course I am currently working on, I need a solution to having to scroll so far back up the page. Just curious if you've encountered it also? I'm looking through threads in the community to see if anyone else has posted the problem/potential solution also. Thanks, Christy

I'd be happy to help. I am a former high school Spanish teacher, and while I have never actually facilitated a Spanish course in Canvas (because I left the classroom the same year our district adopted it), I have helped with training all of teachers, especially our World Language teachers. What are you looking for specifically? Example assignments, general advice, how-to information?

You are right! I usually go in and masquerade as the user and accept the invitation for them before going back and changing the term dates again. Sometimes I forget and have to go back and do it all over again! Thanks for adding that!

Thank you for the suggestion. The issue in our district is not the role. We are comfortable with teachers being added as "teachers". Our issue is that it is not currently possible for a teacher to add another teacher, TA, guest teacher, etc. to their course after it has concluded. That can only be done by the district admin. Thanks again for trying to help us troubleshoot!

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, I don't think that would work for us. Many of our teachers are protective of their content and would not want everyone to be able to see their courses. (That is why they haven't responded to Canvas Commons either). -- I'm working on it But, just out to satisfy my curiosity, would they also be able to import selected content into their courses (without the whole export)? Thanks, Christy

Tracey, I understand your reservations. We currently allow teachers to add users (all roles) to their active courses because we don't have that concern. But I have definitely tried to push teachers to share their courses to Commons and share that way. Unfortunately, that is a very slow process getting our teachers to embrace that idea. Also, many times teachers don't want the whole course (so exporting and importing isn't a good option either.) Thanks, Christy

Idea open for vote Wed. September 7, 2016 - Wed. December 7, 2016 Learn more about voting... I would like for teachers to have the ability to add people (specifically other teachers) to their concluded courses. At the beginning of each term I receive an abundance of requests to add other teachers to past courses for various reasons. Currently I have to change the course term setting, then add the teacher, masquerade as teacher to accept course invitation, and then go back and reset the course term. This is a very cumbersome process. I can't think of a disadvantage to allowing teachers to add people to concluded courses but I do know it would be helpful to me! Comments from Instructure Greetings all! I am going to archive this idea, as it is not something we will be developing as a general solution. After reading all of your comments above, we have come to the following conclusions: When it comes to sharing course content, Commons or setting up a shared course shell is a viable solution Every school has different internal policies on who and when teachers and TAs can be added to a course. Creating a feature that ignores these policies is not something we should be involved in and should be handled at the local admin level. When we look at idea votes, we also look at diversity of voters. This idea seems to be important to less than a handful of schools. (which is why we are archiving it as a general solution). If these schools are interested in a solution, they can contact their CSM to be put in contact with Professional Services.

It was very frustrating indeed! We did read the notes and shared them but not all read closely. Most of our teachers have disabled multiple grading periods because of this issue.
