Same here. Bulk migration of classic quiz question banks is all that's preventing us from finishing out migration to NQ. We are in limbo without that feature being pushed to PROD.

@shirenv - is there any progress on the question bank migration moving from beta to production (using the course copy feature)? We are approx. 1/2 into our migration to New Quizzes, with just question bank migration remaining.

@SuSorensen - Is this feature supposed to be in our beta instances ? When we go to import course content the checkbox to migrate New Quizzes doesn’t appear. Do we need to enable something ?

@kroeninm - We just can't keep waiting on Instructure to settle on a timeline (If you look at the New Quizzes timeline page, they changed the dates again). We've spent months planning this transition (based on the deprecation dates that were published this summer), and it will take about 12 months to complete. Our plan is to start with quizzes that do not have question banks. Every 8 weeks for the next year we will do a migration of approx. 750 quizzes for our fully online programs.

We are starting our migration to New Quizzes next week (will be a 12 month migration). This migration tool (for item banks) is one thing we are still waiting on. When do you anticipate it will be in production ? Will we be able to use the API to do the same thing the copy does ?

@jwadec - I don't think scrapping it would be a good option, either. Our university is moving forward with a 12 month New Quizzes transition plan (starting next week). We honestly cannot continue to wait for Instructure to make a decision - we don't have unlimited time and resources. If we don't start now, we risk not making the cut-off, which would have horrible consequences for our ability to operate our online learning programs, at scale. How are they going to to tell people to switch back ? They cannot possibly make a decision to scrap something, after spending 4 years pushing people to use it. If we get 6 months into this transition and are told to switch back, that will also not elicit a pleasant reaction from the Instructure community.

We have a very large online operations - 750+ master shells/templates and 7,000+ students. Our ID's work with a SME to develop the course. Then, that content auto-copies (via API) to live sections every 8 weeks. The people teaching the course is almost NEVER the person who developed. I have two big concerns about New Quizzes for our model.
1. Quizzes copy unpublished - This is a support/QA nightmare. We run classes every 8 weeks with a heavy adjunct population.
2. Item banks aren't tied to courses - This is an even bigger issue than #1. I've recorded a video that outlines my issue with this process (http://www.kaltura.com/tiny/08e0w). But - the people who teach the course will NOT have the ability to easily edit quiz questions without having the original creator, or support staff, share those question banks. We aren't staffed for this. Again - support/QA nightmare.
3. We need 12 months of time between the completion of these roadmap items in production and the sunset date.

Does anyone know if this is going to happen/be fixed ? We work from a master course model for our online courses (750+ master shells). Are our faculty really supposed to go in and manually publish quizzes every 8 weeks when we offer courses (even though they were published in the master course) ?

@SuSorensen - The issue isn't "how" will Canvas New Quizzes support third-party tools, but "when" exactly will that happen ? As I'm sure you've heard, the current status of New Quizzes (specifically what it doesn't do) seems to be completely divorced from the EOL timeline Canvas has published for classic quizzes.
If third-party tools (we use Proctorio) are not supported and available by mid-fall, how do you expect clients to have time to make this transition ?
We've mapped out the transition on our end, and expect (with human capital limitations and expected volume of work) that it will take 32 weeks, at minimum (we work on 8 week terms) to fully transition from Classic to New.
Our biggest hold-up are the full migration tools and the availability of Proctorio. When exactly will those items be available ? Nobody seems to be able to provide specific dates, details, which makes it impossible to plan what will amount to the largest system transition we've had to complete since moving to Canvas in 2014.

@Steven_S -
That's not my experience, after doing testing this afternoon.
Course A - Instructor Y
Course B - Instructor Z
Course A has quizzes and item banks, all created by Instructor Y. I copied everything over to Course B using the Import Course Content feature (copy all content). Everything copies, except item banks. When I access Course B as Instructor Z, the item banks page is blank and I'm unable to edit those. I didn't do anything else, except copy the content - which would be expected behavior in our 700 master shells that copy every 8 weeks (the copy process is automated via API). When I visit the quizzes in Course B, I can see the item banks are still pulling, and I'm able to preview the quizzes, except the item banks are not actually visible or editable.

@SuSorensen - Based on reading the items above, I could be missing something. Our institution has a very large online population, where we work from a master course model. In that model, an ID and SME develop a master course (quizzes and item banks), and the content of that master is copied to live teaching sections every 8 weeks. The faculty who teach the course are almost never the people who develop the course. When we've been testing, it doesn't appear that item banks come over in that copy and are instead linked to the original. This will prohibit our teaching faculty from making edits to the quiz, which we allow them to do. Is there plans to make it where when you copy the master, it also makes a copy of the item bank in the live section that can be edited by the teaching faculty ?

SuSorensen - I wasn't able to join the blogs you have where you are taking feedback. Please see the above. It's essential that Item Banks within New Quizzes can be copied from course to course, despite the individual end-user.
Our institution has almost 1,000 master shells, which are created by SME's and ID's. Every 8 weeks, the content of that master shell is copied to the live teaching sections, which are almost always taught by people who didn't develop the content. Currently - we are not able to copy New Quiz Item Banks, which means our faculty cannot actually edit questions within there quizzes. This is a non-starter for us and the main reason we've held off on using the product. If this isn't fixed, I'm not sure how we are able to use quizzes/exams within our courses without hardship on our employees to manually transfer those banks.

Can some form Instructure comment on this ? What is the solution for institutions (like ours) that have 600+ master shells and copy content from that into live sections every 8 weeks. The users who develop the content in the masters (SME's and ID's) are almost never the people who teach the courses. Will our model just no longer work when we move to New Quizzes ? Will teachers in live sections be unable to actually edit item banks - without us going manually to each item bank (many many 1,000's) and sharing them with the courses or users (the new sharing tool).

This seems like a no-brainer. Are our faculty supposed to go into each course every 8 weeks and republish every single quiz ?

What if you aren't the instructor in the other course. We have 7,000+ online students and 500 master shells. SME's and Instructional Designers create quizzes/exams in the master shell, which copies to live sections every 8 weeks. The people who develop the quizzes don't always teach, or teach all sections.
What do we do in that case?

Right. We have 1k Master Shells for our online courses, each with potentially dozens of question banks. Instead of quizzes living with the course, the New Quizzes tool attached them to the individual user. So, our instructional designers (some external to our organization) are going to have thousands of quizzes/question banks tied to them in the new tool. THat's not workable for our situation.

I'm still really concerned that Canvas will not be creating functionality where questions/banks stay within a course, as opposed to attach to an individual user account. Does anyone from Canvas have an update ? If questions/quizzes/banks in New.Quizzes will be tied to individuals, then there is no possible way for us to move forward with the product.

I'm really concerned about timing. By the time Canvas addresses this issue, how close will we be to the old tool be deprecated ? We are going to need at least 6 months to transition everything.
