At BGSU, we too rely on term dates to control access. Our default student access restriction will remove access at the term end date. Teacher access becomes read-only at the term end date. We actively discourage concluding course sites as the enrollments appear lost during normal use. We create new sites each term. Makes the Courses page a bit messy for faculty, but we've not received significant complaints. We use inactive enrollment status for students who drop the course so the enrollments do not disappear from the faculty. Our first full Canvas term was Fall 2013 and we've used these strategies consistently since that time.

Here's an update. The rubric icon from the instructor's view of the student's grade. However, the student does not see the link. It is unsettling to the instructor that the views are not consistent.

I have an instructor who uses a rubric to score an assignment. When grades are not posted or hidden, students can still see a link to the rubric which then displays the scores. We would like to learn how to suppress the scored rubric until the grades are posted.

The Canvas documentation states the following behavior when multiple course sites are attached to an appointment group. Note: If you added an appointment group to more than one course, appointment slots only display in the calendar for the first course shown in the appointment group. Does the workflow change for students in the 2nd and subsequent course sites when signing up for these appointment slots? The documentation for students show a calendar view after using the search for appointment feature. Thanks.

BGSU has just started using Canvas Studio. It appears to be a Java application. I can see there is a Java 7 runtime installed under application folder. Are there other dependencies that we should examine?

Thank you everyone for the great contributions. I found that this solution does not work on a phone browser (I haven't yet reviewing how to implement in the apps). The global nav window is a flyout created by JS that is loaded when the hamburger icon is clicked. Does anyone have a solution for this situation or even one for the mobile apps? My current strategy is to start a timer when the hamburger is clicked testing for the existence of the menu list. I'd like input before I head down that path.

@James ‌ Thank you for this document. I just tried the solution using your sample data and I did not get a signature that matched yours. How dependent is this outcome on the node.js version used? I am using 12.6.1, the current LTS version for Windows. We have instructors with very large gradebooks. These gradebooks can have large student or assignment counts or both. I review a gradebook by exporting the csv and then identifying rows where the current score does not match the final score. What strategies do you employ to insure the completeness of grades? Thanks.

At BGSU we have used Postman and the API to diagnose issues and make data changes for years. The desktop version has more features than the Chrome app. Thanks for creating the article!

The observers in this course serve as mentors on specializations for which the entire class is responsible, but the mentor is only managing one. The instructor wants to provide mentors access to only the materials they need and not the entire course content.

Melanie, Be sure to identify the risk the JS code can create. Global JS will load on every Canvas page in that account. In our circumstance, BGSU is supporting two vendors in our global JS file. We have a risk that one or both of the services may be down and creating a performance issue for our Canvas instances. It also may be a risk for a single user who is unable to connect to the sites. This is just one example of the risk that can be introduced using this feature. I'm not trying to dissuade you, but just wanted you to be informed.
