I can appreciate that your school board wants to have some visibility into the teaching and learning that takes place online. And my guess is, that they probably also review other curricular things and walk through classrooms at times to see what's taking place. I think you would need to be mindful not to grant access to all settings. The way I would consider providing this type of access would either be on a request of certainly "classes" and in which case, you could make add them as an Observer in the class similar to how you add parents, but not have them linked to any one particular student. Alternatively, you could create an Admin Account with permissions only to grant them content view access with the Course Content - view enabled. I believe this would provide the limited access you are looking for. See image below. Good luck!

Problem statement: The Todo list is a great tool to help teachers and students quickly see what they need to do next. However, the only option for the list items is to leave them or remove them. Sometimes you want to address them at a later date but you don’t want to permanently remove it from the list. Recently, on FaceBook a user shared a concern that promoted me to submit this request. So I know that many teachers and students could benefit mentally by allowing this simple setting to exist. #ThanksCanvas! Proposed solution: Could Canvas add a button or toggle as an option for the entire list and/or by item to snooze/hide the todo list or item? Perhaps when you click the “x” to clear the item you see a popular to remove or snooze. User role(s): admin,instructor,student

I recently changed jobs which means my Canvas accounts have changed. Can I add multiple email addresses to my Canvas Community Profile? If not, should I use a personal one or my work one since my job currently also has a Canvas instance.

Thank you for addressing this roadmap and ideas/development struggle. As a Canvas user since 2012, I have seen the iterations come and go. I feel like more recently, the suggestions and influence of users (teachers) have decreased and it appears there is not a rhyme to why one feature gets developed while another more requested doesn't. I am hopefully that your analysis of the 4000+ ideas will yield some more focus and needed improvements. Thanks for listening. I have had one of my very own ideas to Canvas selected and developed. It feels good. Hopefully, we will get back to that for all users. Thanks!

Great question. Canvas doesn't have way to import a .doc or .docx or Google Doc and convert it automatically to a Quiz. Canvas does accept QTI files, which create quizzes. However, to create a QTi file is a pain in the butt. I've heard that Respondus and ExamView can convert a WORD document into a QTI file. However, it's not free, but perhaps your institution has access and you could use it. Otherwise, you could always just create the KEY with numbered questions and then continue to use your WORD file printed or made available and ask the students to enter their scores into the quiz. I've done this before in my high school class. It worked better actually just having them record answers on a sheet of paper, then at the very end opening Canvas and entering their answers into my blank quiz, which then I had keyed with the answers so that Canvas quiz did all the scoring. This seemed to be a quick way to get results. If you find a more effective and free way to create QTI files, please let me.

Probably my favorite is the new hotspot question type. You place an image and identify the hotspot. Students then can pick a spot on the image. If they are within the hotspot area, they will receive the correct status. Love using it for geography but also for things like in math (select the numerator) and other times when you need students to select something like the correct date on a calendar. Feature idea: could be rad to have a multiple hotspot option where they point value depended upon selecting all correct or receive partial correct.

We currently use CidiLabs to leverage pre-packaged CSS and JavaScript code for our delivery of enhanced content in Canvas. We partnered with them when we decided to create virtual content during Covid. We are continuing to use them because they provide a solid design experience for all our teachers. What I love about it, is not all our teachers have html, css background. But with CidiLabs you can create account wide page templates and branded content that can be pushed out using blueprints, course templates or Commons. it also has a ton of themes that can further be customized. The design tools is pretty simple interface with lots of advanced features that can be enabled or hidden. if you haven’t checked out CidiLabs you might want to. It beats having to run our own custom CSS and ensure it updates when Canvas does. Learn more about CidiLabs design tools.

I appreciate the previous solution to this problem. Let me offer another option to converting question banks to item banks. I have also found a way that seems to work and it's pretty quick and easy. Check out my video Converting Classic Question Banks to New Quiz Item Banks video STEPS: Create Classic Canvas quiz Create and name a "question group" but DON'T link it to a bank Find questions from the question banks and add them to the question group Save quiz Migrate to a new quiz. DONE! Now you have a new quiz and item bank based on the classic question bank.

Thanks for tackling a new feature to make the gradebook better for teachers. Over the summer we enabled this feature for teachers. But I think we are going to turn it off until we can get a simpler method to switch between SECTIONS. The process before was simply to click the dropdown to the new section. Now, this single-click process is actually more like 3 since you have to click on filters, click on toggle, and click off of the tray. Not to mention, you have to take the time to set up a filter for every course that has multiple sections. This should be a default filtering option built right into the page with the ability to enable enhanced filtering. Please address filtering by section. Thanks!

I suggest that Canvas develop a Chrome Extension for Canvas Studio. There are so many times when reporting a bug or wanting to share my Canvas tip to a teacher that I need to record my screen. I love that on Chrome I can click an extension and record a video in an instance with some other extension namely (Screencastify or Screencastomatic). Normally I am wanting to record a Canvas page example. So with Studio, I have to first open Canvas, open Studio, then launch the screenrecorder, record the video, title the video, upload the video, wait for the upload, locate the video back in Studio, click the settings icon, click to Share a Link, click Links, copy the link and then I can share that with someone that is in or not in our Canvas instance. 💡 MY IDEA: Studio Chrome Extension It would be rad if you had a simple Chrome extension that operates similarly to Screencastify....click the button it launches the screenrecorder, click record, stop recording and its auto-uploading to your Studio files and copies the URL to your clipboard. Thanks @jozsefdavid for the very thorough post. I also appreciate you advocating for the customer and, for our district, the little kindergarten student who uses the iPad and wants to draw on the PDF for the assignment. Recently, I have some teachers of Canvas littles discovering the power and simplicity in the iOS app annotations for their students. However, they quickly picked up on the difference in toolset and, more importantly, the buggy-ness of the Student Annotation submission for resizing drawings and textboxes. It sounds like you noticed this and on your roadmap hoped to get this resolved by 2021. Any luck? I recently submitted a ticket with support to help address this issue and was sent this blog post. Thanks for all you do to make learning seamless with technology.

Well, this is exciting to hear that you haven't decommissioned it or just stopped developing it altogether. I support you in this effort. I think there is some great value that doesn't currently exist in Canvas that would make it so teachers could better use data collected from rubrics. Thanks for sharing and making the effort.

Yes, it can be setup as a totally asynchronous learning tool. A couple of ideas to help. You can create learning units using the modules and setup content pages for the overview page with instructions and learning goals, then add content pages for lessons, assignments for activities and quizzes that are autograded. You can also create module completion requirements to ensure students complete tasks and prerequisites to ensure they complete learning units in order or in progression. Also, you can leverage MasteryPaths to create more personalized learning experiences. Student can view their progress by reviewing the module page. We created an example of a self-guided, asynchronous e-learning that was designed with three levels of learning each including 6 modules that could be completed in any order. Check it out in the Commons for you to download called Canvas Levels of Learning. I think you will find Canvas can meet a lot of needs when it comes to e-Learning.

I totally get empowering students to own and take responsibility for their grades. We have not wanted to hide this overall grade before from parents, so my idea is not speaking from personal experience. However, I think what you might be looking for is hiding the student grade using CSS with the Class class="student_assignment hard_coded final_grade" and the ID id="submission_final-grade". @BenFriedman Wow, thanks for the reply. I love that Canvas leaders connect via the Community with us. Unfortunately, the Outcome Result report would be a ton of work for someone to have to generate after each assignment to display the results for the for the outcomes on a rubric. Then to provided that back to the teacher. The time required would also eliminate any use of the report for formative purpose. In addition, I believe that report only pulls Outcomes and not the other rubric criteria. I was hoping that as you explore feature enhancements and updates to Outcomes, Learning Mastery and Rubrics, perhaps a display of the assignment and rubric score by class would be a good addition. Let me know if you want to visit virtually to chat more. Not sure I am totally doing justice on this thread.
