I'm really looking forward to this feature and would like an update on when it will move to the next stage. It looks like other products can fill this void, but it would be so much better if I could just do this on Canvas. I can't remember which one of the polling apps on this page ( 4 Free Polling Tools to Keep Students Engaged ) provided the ability to let users click on a map of the US or World to show location, that would be cool.

1 vote? This has 180 votes. Probably those who use groups are a subset of those who use Canvas, and there are less people voting on group issues, so that may be a relatively large number. Not only do I have to recreate group settings every quarter, I have to go through each group assignment to make sure they reflect the proper group, as Canvas likes to change them. I look forward to the time this change will save me, not to mention the frustration.

When students leave the class, the number of students showing in their group doesn't change. If new students come in, I don't know which group is short so I can place them there. It's great to see inactive students in the Grade Book, but I can't divide students evenly into groups.

It's fine to retain inactive student names within a group, but they shouldn't count towards the number of students that Canvas indicates are within a group. How can you evenly divide a class up into groups, when inactive students still count?

I can't believe we have to ask for this as a "feature". There is often an optimal size for group activities, which I can't achieve until this BUG is repaired. I am in the middle of a course and will have to rearrange my groups. It is causing students problems, and making the group learning experience problematic for some. This process of proposing a "feature" and crossing our fingers it gets prioritized is too long and risky when there is a problem like this one.

I don't even come here to comment that often. I would be more interested if practical suggestions were acted upon. "Acclaim" or points do not motivate me.

I think a problem for asking for improvements on group functions is that Canvas prioritizes work by how many people are clamoring for it. Since not everyone uses groups, I imagine that non-group ideas get more likes, and are therefore prioritized. If so, how will we get Canvas to hear us?

It is a bit of a Catch-22. Perhaps more people would assign group activities, if there was more functionality that addressed the problems of groups. Then they would be more inclined to vote on improvements in group work. In addition to voting on these features, I would point to literature that points out the benefits of interactive learning, and the perceived problems of groups. In this article, it is pointed out how assessment are a problem related to group work: Seven Problems of Online Group Learning (and Their Solutions) Tim S. Roberts and Joanne M. McInnerney http://www.ifets.info/journals/10_4/22.pdf The ideas that did not make the vote quota would address many of the issues related to assessment discussed in this paper. Currently, overcoming the lack of these features is a major time suck in assessing the group work that I assign. Why do I do it? I care about the future of my students. The number one skill that employers are looking for is the ability to work in a team. http://www.forbes.com/sites/susanadams/2014/11/12/the-10-skills-employers-most-want-in-2015-graduates/ Hopefully, the flexible peer review creation will get sufficient votes.

I would use this for the rubric related to the assignment itself, and a rubric for peer review of the assignment.

I think at least once each term, a student will submit an individual assignment over the top of a group assignment by accident. Then I have to contact the group to get the original document. I could definitely see where that would be a problem if you tried to set up an assignment assuming multiple submissions were possible..

I would like a set of groups, which I can choose from each term. In my class, each group gets a different research project, which I like to vary from term to term. Sometimes I repeat them, and it would be helpful to go grab that group.

1. Being able to look over discussion later, when I am rolling over the class, is a way for me to evaluate the quality of my discussion question/topic. Did it inspire students to really think critically about the subject? Does the discussion question lead students to engage with the class materials, rather than just give a knee jerk response? Can I better align the discussion question with learning outcomes? 2. I ask students to provide a citation backing up their discussion points, hopefully from sources outside class. My intention was to mine these discussions and citations to update the class. Not being able to export the discussion is a barrier to this. I could see where students may want to use these discussion points and citations in their individual research projects. 3. My other idea using exported discussion is to dump it into a tool like Wordle (Wordle - Beautiful Word Clouds), which would make word art out of the discussion. The most frequently used terms are displayed in larger fonts, so this would give the class feedback on what they as a group focused most on in discussion. This would be a nice way to conclude each module and segue into the next in an announcement.

This is critical for online students. If they do their degree completely online, our interactions through Canvas are the only thing we can base a recommendation on. I would like to see not only their grade, but any work they submitted.

I have groups peer review other groups' work. Each group researches a different topic, so it is necessary to carefully assign reviews so they learn about complementary topics. I would very much like to see my comments on the original submission, and peer reviewers comments next to the final submission. That way I can see if students improved their work based on comments.

Multiple assignments is what I do now. However, I can't see the comments that I gave for the previous draft when grading the ffinal. That makes it hard to see if my comments were heeded or even useful. By making the draft worth points, I get students to distribute some of their research and writing work earlier in the term, instead of the last minute.

If I assigned a draft and a final, can I use this to look at the first and second submission simultaneously? Can the draft and final have different due dates within this single assignment?
