Thanks for sharing the code! It really helped me in finding out how to get the grade for a specific assignment for a specific user. After the missing grades report that I needed to create, I need to work on a report that get the grades of specific students (who belong to an external group) who are scattered in different courses in Canvas. Step 1: Get the list of users for that external group from our SIS Step 2: Using the user e-mail, get the userid from Canvas Step 3: Using the classname and term from SIS, get the courseid from Canvas Step 4: Using the userid and courseid, use the 2 functions in Gerald's script to get the grades for the assignments for that student in that course

Hey Stuart I'm attaching a few screenshots After the term is selected, the app connects to a python script that connects with the canvas API and runs the canvas report for 3 files, users.csv, enrollment.csv and grades.csv for the term chosen. Because this transaction is asynchronous and the response does not wait for the csv file to be created, I show another button "Display Data if Ready" that checks if the jobs (ids were returned in the previous transaction) have completed. If they did complete, the back-end python script uses the job ids to get the csv download url, get the respective data, process them to find all students with 0 or blank total grades and then use the users and enrollments to find the teacher name, email address and course name. The returned data is displayed in the front-end as shown below One piece left is to add the function to be able to send notifications to the teachers in the list.

Thanks Ryan for the feedback Recently, there was an update in the Canvas API whereby the grades export csv contains 2 columns for the final score, one called final score and one called unposted final score. The unposted final score will show the score even if it's muted. I am close to getting a version of that out, using a combination of amazon aws to grab the csv files and a python script to do some calculations from the csv files. Then, we will present that as a report in a front-end. Once I'm done, I will publish some screen shots here

Thank for you reply Stuart I actually got busy on other projects and have not been able to spend this on this It would be great to see a guide that explains how to get started with LTI and understand the procedure of where the LTI will be "placed" in Canvas.

Hi Is there a procedure for moving users from one Canvas instance (for example hosted) to another (for example open source) so that their enrollment, assignments and grades data would be kept. We would copy the courses across, of course. Thanks

Hi Is there any guide/documentation to build an LTI tool that will show in a specific place in Canvas - I am thinking about another "tab" in the assignment submission like the dropbox LTI (see attached image) so that the file attached this way will be connected with the assignment submission

Nice informational post. We had considered voicethread some time ago but ended going with critiqueit which also has LTI integration with Canvas. We needed students and teachers to be able to record or write comments on the timeline of an existing audio or video file. The instructors who have used it have loved it for language listening lessons

Hi I'm working on a front-end admin portal for our administration to be able to pull grades from Canvas easily. Most of our face to face classes right use Canvas mainly for grades (i.e. no online resource access for students) Therefore, our academic administration only want students to see their grades at the end of the term Hence, when courses are created from templates, all the assignments are automatically muted. However, in created my admin report, I need to mute/unmute grades in order to get the status of grades across classes during the term I tried to use the set notifcations function in the API, so that on mute/unmute change is never for all users. However, it seems that changing this is only available under "self" Therefore, some students who do use Canvas for online resources, have started to get these notifications. Any suggestions on how to go around this problem? My app is written in python with the front-end in html-jquery Thanks Ismael

Dear Traci We have come across this similar problem before with our online Arabic program and we found a pretty good solution by using vimeo pro for hosting and embedding videos and for audio files, we used soundcloud - soundcloud's embed widget is quite flexible with the ability to embed playlists.
