Thanks Robbie! Unfortunately, it appears to still be an issue that Microsoft has not corrected yet. Based on the nature of the issue, I would suspect that there are more Canvas users experiencing it without being aware it was happening.

I've had some time to read through the conversations in the Beta Release Notes now regarding the icons, and I really wish I would have seen it all sooner. Frankly, I'm starting to think that these new icons need to be pulled from this update and re-worked all over again. If the plan is to roll out what's in Beta right now and make more changes later, well frankly, that's even worse. We cannot keep changing the icons over and over again, you don't do that to users. If there was enough concern about accessibility to increase the font size in the whole system, then surely those same reasons are valid to not implement these new icons. Unless there is a whole new fresh set of icons in the works that will be ready before Saturday, please don't let this go out! Edit: Apologies to stefaniesanders, I didn't mean this to be a reply to you, thought I was posting a new comment

Completely agree, "upload" is exactly what I think of when I see the new Publish icon. Also, without the visual difference between the filled in cloud vs the empty cloud, it makes it nearly impossible to do a quick scan of unpub/pub items. One of the things I love about Canvas are the little things that make it easy, and that was one of them - you can get so much information at a glance. Now the difference is too subtle for that. I'm not a fan of the new icons.

Is anyone else seeing the "Sync to SIS disabled" icon on their Quizzes pages since this update? We do not even have any grade pass-back features enabled in our system, and I can't figure out how to turn it off??

We tried using it in Canvas about 1.5 years ago and were not successful. That's not uncommon with SCORM though - some work with some systems and some don't (longer explanation below**). It's very possible that it just won't work period. Even SANS told us "sorry" when we tried to work with them. Things might have changed in the last year and a half, but you'll need to be prepared with a Plan B instead of running the program in your own LMS. **My understanding is that SCORM has a very loose set of technology standards, which makes it difficult to fully support. A SCORM package created from one software will not be identical to one created with something else - one might work, and the other won't. This makes it nearly impossible to support 100% on the receiving side. One package might work in BB, the other only in Canvas. I hate SCORM in case you can't tell. I tell faculty to avoid it like the plague. And in case you get too excited when one package actually works right, just wait about 6 months and it will stop working.

Can anyone expand on the statement, "Faculty and students must have accounts in the same Microsoft domain.", please? For whatever reason, our faculty/staff are in a different domain than our students. Is there only certain functionality that would not be available, or are we looking at total inoperability? Thanks!

Thank you Peter for bringing this to our attention! I posted a comment in the idea, but wanted to add a note here as well to hopefully encourage more votes in the idea: In our case, it's not so much about FERPA/privacy, but more about division of responsibility. I created a custom role (based on the TA role) for the Librarians at the College. It has become common lately for the Librarian to create a specific research-based assignment in the course. It is our policy stance, and one which is fully supported by the instructors, that the Librarian role does not have access to the gradebook. If this feature were to be added, it would allow the instructors to provide the ability for the Librarian to grade the one assignment, without any risk to the full gradebook or other data.

If I may, I think the most succinct way to summarize the issue is that the RCE sidebar lists should scroll. I am in 100% agreement that scrolling the entire page should not be necessary to scroll through a long list of items in the sidebar. This was the functionality of the previous sidebar, and I see no logical reasoning for removing it. When testing the new sidebar in a small testing course, the issue is not readily apparent. However, when working in a course with a long list of Pages, as in the above example, the issue becomes quite obvious that the functionality is flawed.

We are a large Community College with very few, if any, traditional cross listed courses, so you can take my answer for what it's worth. We also use the 1-to-1 model for all of our courses and sections, with everything populated via SIS. How I manage it here is that any instructor who is teaching two or more sections of the same course can submit a request for their sections to be merged in Canvas. They can submit their requests to me at any time, but I will only perform the merge in Canvas during the week prior to the first day of classes. I do this specifically to avoid the issue of sections being re-assigned to someone else, like you mentioned. I also warn them to not load any content into the shells in Canvas until the merge is completed, since content will not carry over with the merge. I will not perform any merges after classes have started, to avoid any possible risk of student data being lost in the process. As far as I know, the course(s) being Published/Unpublished doesn't matter much. When I perform the merge, the only names/IDs that I change are the Name and Course Code fields of the "new" merged shell. Here's an example: Course 1 Name: CHM1046 (160367) - General Chemistry II Course 1 Course Code: CHM1046 (160367) Course 2 Name: CHM1046 (160368) - General Chemistry II Course 2 Course Code: CHM1046 (160368) ---- Post Merge: Course 1 Name: CHM1046 (160367 & 160368) - General Chemistry II Course 1 Course Code: CHM1046 (160367 & 160368) If I merge more than two sections together, I rename them like this: CHM1046 (160367, 160368, 160369) - Gen Chem II. All SIS IDs are left in tact, including all Section information. As procedure, I always roll the higher reference number into the lower one, so I went into 160368 in the above example and merged it into 160367. It really doesn't matter, it's just what I always do. I do this process manually, and only by request. We've only been on Canvas exclusively for about 1.5 yrs, so right now there are only about 5-6 requests each semester that I have to process. Since it doesn't take much time, I have not looked into automating the process at all and do it strictly manually. Hope that helps!

Hi @kenneth_larsen , thanks for your reply! When you stated, "Aside from the fact that it is merged into the Help Menu rather than being a separate item" - that summed it up exactly. We heavily promote the use of the existing Help menu for all our users as we have higher tier support. However, we previously had a custom menu in the old UI for "TCC Resources", which linked to a few common systems at the College which was also heavily used by both faculty and students. So merging the two into one provided me with little benefit. Not a big deal, since it sounds like it was right on the mark for most people, I was just thoroughly confused as I was expecting one thing from this Idea and received another. Disappointed, but c'est la vie! Jacci

Thank you for this!! I was also having issues in my environment when I was testing this and will certainly NOT be enabling it. One thing that really stuck out to me as strange was the fact that under the Feature Options, the similar option, "Use remote version of Rich Content Editor" is still tagged as BETA but yet it forced into On. If it's still in beta, then why do I not have the option to disable it?

I'm not seeing anything in the Release Notes about the ability to add a custom menu? The only changes I'm seeing are for the Help Menu, but that's not what this Idea was about?

I have recently discovered an issue and I'm hoping that some other admins will be able to confirm what I'm seeing. I have an instructor who noticed that his students were not receiving the Canvas Inbox messages he was sending them via email replies. Upon investigation, it appears that the native email app in Windows 10 does not respect the REPLY TO address in the message header. When the user tries to reply to the email notification, the reply is sent to notifications@instructure.com instead of reply+[LongStringOfLettersAndNumbers]@notifications.canvaslms.com. Due to this, the reply emails are not tracking back into Canvas, but getting lost in limbo after being sent to an "invalid" address. Has anyone else had any experience with this issue, or can confirm it is happening to any other users? Thanks!

Nope, you're not wrong. We create new course shells each semester, and in all of our courses that use SCORM, we have to re-load them in every time. I've confirmed with Instructure that they are hoping to resolve this in the future, but it will be a while if it happens. One specific course we run uses 34 separate SCORM files and it's my job to re-load them every time. Yay!

One thing I do to help alleviate the phone calls at the start of each semester - I place a global announcement, to all Students, that says essentially, "Looking for your Canvas course?". It contains one or two sentences, and then points them to a webpage with a breakdown of the most common reasons and how to resolve them. (If you're interested, it's this page: Where is My Course? | Tallahassee Community College ) I keep the announcement visible for the first 1.5-2 weeks of each semester. So far I've done that for two semesters now and it has significantly reduced the call volume to our Help Desk, as quite literally "where is my Canvas course" was one of the most frequent support requests we were getting, especially after the Dashboard/Favorites View debacle noted in the above conversation.

@palmarinich , What you are seeing might not necessarily be part of the issue in the other posts you found. Typically, for a new user the Favorites view is not enabled by default. When Favorites view is not enabled (no courses have gold stars), all courses will appear on the Dashboard. Since Canvas is new to you and your users, it is very likely that the course(s) will appear on their Dashboard by default since they have not yet enabled that Favorites view. What you may be experiencing instead is an issue of the course(s) not yet being in a current Term. Courses in which a user is enrolled for future terms will not appear on the Dashboard, which is expected behavior (and not part of the issue discussed in the other threads). I believe this may also happen when the course start dates are in the future as well, but we exclusively use the Terms to control our access so I can't confirm, but theoretically I believe that's how it works also.

Hi Josh, At our institution, we also use LDAP currently for Canvas authentication. The URL I have for the Forgot Password link points to a College webpage that direct users on the "proper way" to change their password. Is that an option for you?

Hi Deactivated user, YES PLEASE! This would solve so many issues we have been having for the last two semesters with our students not being able to find their new courses. It would be wonderful if this feature could be incorporated into Canvas prior to the start of the Fall term. With enrollment numbers being higher for the Fall term across the board at nearly all k-12 and higher ed institutions, I know this would clear up so much confusion - which in turn would cut down on the support calls that come in, not only to our help desk, but to Instructure as well! I don't know how time intensive this change will be, but any progress that can be made prior to Fall would be most appreciated!

Did anyone else notice in that email from TII that they state we CAN run both the LTI and API at the same time? " For those who are wondering, it is possible to run the legacy Canvas integration and Canvas LTI integration in parallel during the transition period. When the previous Canvas integration becomes unavailable, classes and assignments originally created through the previous integration will remain accessible by logging into Turnitin directly. These older classes and assignments will not be visible in the LTI integration."
