We take our class enrolments from the student system and create sections. Most students will be in multiple classes ie Lecture, Tutorial and Labs so will be in multiple section. This is why the current Canvas functionality does not work as it was designed around the use case of a student only be in one section.

Hi Jayde, We have the same concerns here at Adelaide and last year had Instructure Professional Services develop an LTI tool (Group Management tool) to help us with Groups. Basically it provides a CSV upload to organise groups and then also allows the management of people using drag and drop in sections. Hi, University of Adelaide has 16 terms in 2018 with approx. 3000 course for 27,000 students. Students have access to the course during the term and then read only access until the course is deleted. Teaching staff have full access until it is deleted. We retain our courses for five (5) years and at the end of the fifth year we will delete all course for that year, unless a school asks for and extension due to accreditation needs. We set our course to 5000 MB as default. Mark

1. I'll ask one of our developers to contact you about how it works technically. 2. We have looked at Blueprint, but at the moment we want to keep it available for use at a program level. As you can only have one Blueprint per course, if we use it as a template we cannot use it gain in that course. If think we may get to the point where we use a template as a bulk mechanism for courses and then use Blueprint for specific purposes i.e. adding a specific module to a group of course.

Hi Adam, We use SIS. Once a new course is created via the SIS integration we use the API's to copy a template to it. If you want further technical details I can get one of out IT people to contact you. Mark

We use template to set these plus other things in a course. When we create a course we automatically do a course copy from our template course and more setting come across with the course copy. I agree it would be useful at be able to set defaults at the root or sub account level

We have the same problem of too many courses, our students will normally enrol in 8-10 courses per year, but we continue to give access to old courses, so if you have been here for a number of years the course number is large for students. For Faculty it gets unusable very quickly as we create a new course each time it is run. I would be great to have a way for course that are currently running or about to run to be at the top of list. Could the term dates be used?
