So I may not be returning to my current school in the fall and I've spent the last 2 years creating wonderful content on Canvas that I don't want to lose. I tried moving my course to the commons but when I check it out, only the bare shell made the move. All the content embedded with external tools is gone. Links no longer work. Even all my question banks and quizzes are missing. I see the small number of classic quizzes, but all the ones I made with new quizzes have disappeared. Do you just have to start all over when you move to a different school system or is there a way to save my content somehow? Thank you!

I have lots of kids who need all written text read aloud to them. I hate that when I either upload an audio file of myself reading, or record one on Canvas, I get this big clunky box that looks like a video. I tried adding a small button like this as an image and linking the image to an audio file. It looked quite nice on the page. But when I tested it out, it opened the box just like the "video" looking one at the top of my post today. In fact, that opened in another tab so they couldn't even see the text while listening to the audio. Is there a neater way to have audio available at different portions of the page without the big "video" looking thing Canvas uses, but not opening up a separate tab to play the audio like my idea?

I want to post my syllabus on Canvas. I used "external tool" and selected the appropriate Office 365 document. However, I don't see an option for inline preview. I thought about downloading the Office 365 document to my computer, then uploading it to my Canvas page, but I may end up making changes to the document so I'd rather use Office 365. However, I can't find a way to show the preview on the Canvas page. Help!

I recently integrated H5P with Canvas (I'm on a free trial with H5P) and love the way I can put in multiple quiz questions together in one activity so only 1 thing to grade. For example, my assignment goes something like this: content to read 2 multiple choice questions where they get immediate feedback as to whether right or wrong, and a chance to retry. more content to read 4 multiple choice questions, again getting that immediate feedback as they answer each question and a chance to retry more content to read a video a drag and drop with immediate feedback and a chance to retry. I was showing this to another teacher and she insisted she can do all that right in Canvas quizzes. I know that I can insert content to read, videos, and multiple choice questions in Canvas quizzes, but as far as I know the student have to complete and submit the entire thing just to find out that they got question 1 wrong. Then they have to redo the entire thing just to fix that 1 question they got wrong. She insisted they can answer one question at a time and get the feedback as to whether right or wrong as they go. She said all I have to do is change my settings in Canvas. What am I missing?

I want to import just 1 module from a course in the Commons. I only know how to import the entire course. I don't see an option to import just a page or just a module. Do I really have to import the entire course and then delete all the stuff I don't want one page at a time?

So I signed on using a different computer and there it was under "assignments" so I added it to the module. Is it because my computer is a Mac? I'm running Google Chrome.

Using the "new quizzes" I often find that they disappear and can't be given to students. When I try to add them to the module, they aren't there. Yes, I've tried looking under both "quiz" and "assignment" but sometimes they don't show up no matter what. I just spent 30 minutes writing a quiz and it's now useless. It still shows up when I click on the "quiz" tab on the left side of my screen, but when I go to add it to the module it's not there. This has happened before. Sometimes if I go back and try to add it to the module the next day it suddenly appears. Sometimes not and I give up. Help!

So I've been trying to use the "Message students who..." feature in the gradebook. I usually set it to message students who scored less than 50%. I only do this after I've checked and updated any grades for that assignment for the class. However, I had students from another class who got the message and were upset. They had turned in their work but I hadn't entered grades for their class yet. Now I do have all my classes linked, but in the gradebook I had chosen just the section I wanted to send messages too. I looked a the names that popped up and removed any names I didn't want to send a message to. There were no names on that list of students from other sections. I hit "send." Then this morning students from a completely different section got the message and lost their minds. What am I doing wrong?

Sorry I want to make sure I understand. So when students are looking at modules, they just won't see the assignment that wasn't assigned to them? It won't be there but greyed out or anything. So if I give different assignments to different kids based on how they performed last class, they won't even realize that there are 2 different assignments???

I'm planning to give an assignment next class that builds on the skills from last class. However, I have a few students who struggled on my last assignment and clearly need some basic skills practice. I think I know how to assign to specific students, but what I don't know is how the students would find their assignment. I usually put the day's assignment under the module for the week, with the module divided up by day. Do I just put both assignments in the module, and students will only see the one assigned to them? Or does it work differently? Here's what I'm picturing: Module 37 Week for March 15-20 Monday/Tuesday work: More practice with speed and velocity calculations (most students will see this) Remediation assignment (a few students would see this instead and not the one above) Is that actually what would happen, or would students see both assignments but only be able to open the one assigned to them? Thanks for helping me out!

We just did an experiment where the other teacher added a "testing" option to a question and it showed up on my end, so we figured out that we can't share/edit the bank without affecting both of us. Can she duplicate the question bank somehow and then edit her own copy?

I created a question bank of about 40 questions for my upcoming test in new quizzes. For the test, I set it to select 20 random questions from the bank. This way students can have 2nd and 3rd attempts at the test, but it's not necessarily going to be the same exact questions. I shared my question bank with another teacher and she is going to do the same thing. However, if she decides to edit or delete a question from the bank, does it disappear on my end too? How can we avoid this problem so she can edit/delete without changing my questions on my end?

I used to use Quia.com for quizzes before my district purchased Canvas. One of my favorite things to do was to give a "review quiz" as both a formative assessment to help me assess their learning, but also to teach students as they answered questions. I'd set the quiz to display one question at a time, and Quia would grade each question as they answered it. So let's say the student answered this question: Q- What is a group on the periodic table? Answer choice 1 - a horizontal row Answer choice 2 - a vertical column Answer choice 3 - a zig zag shaped line that divides the metals from the metalloids Choice 2 is the correct answer, but let's say the kid chose choice 1. They would receive immediate feedback that they got it wrong, see what the correct choice should have been, and if I entered comments for incorrect answers they'd see an explanation of where they went wrong. This way the student learned something and had a better chance at getting the next question correct. I can't seem to do this on Canvas. The student has to answer all the questions (although they can do so one question at a time) and sees a score and correct/incorrect answers at the end. I know my kids only look at their score and ignore any feedback/comments when done this way, and it's too late for that feedback to help them on the next question. Is there a way to give them immediate feedback in Canvas after each question?

Hello, I'm a teacher using Canvas and Microsoft Teams to teach online. Last week I scheduled a class meeting in Teams via the Canvas calendar for every day this month. This morning all the links on B days were missing from the Canvas calendar. I created the links again. Around noon they disappeared and I had to create them again. Today was an A day and the link worked fine all day, but sometime in the afternoon the A day link for today disappeared from the calendar. Today's link was set up from 8am to 3pm, and students could click on it anytime. About 5 minutes before each class I went into the Teams app and admitted all the people waiting in the lobby. I think what's happening on Canvas is somehow students are able to delete the meetings from their calendar, which takes it off EVERYONE'S calendar. How can I make sure students can click on the calendar link but not edit or delete it?
