How about having that Favorites list actually match what is on our Dashboard? Right now I have only 3 courses favorited - they have gold stars and are showing on my Dashboard, but 12 courses from a variety of semesters show up on that 'Favorites' list in Canvas messaging. some of them are so old I can't bring them to the Dashboard anymore to change the nickname anyway. This- is a frustrating problem that affects many faculty at my institution - Please help

Yes, Please! This would be helpful, as would the ability to take favorites off of this list. I have only 3 courses on my dashboard but 12 courses are on the Favorites list when I go to compose a message to students

Hi, I have two students who are also getting this error message when trying to post images to their discussions. It happens when I "become" them as well, so it is clearly linked to their accounts. and neither of them has anything close to too many files. Has anyone found an answer to this? Help would be much appreciated.

I am afraid that Canvas has confused two issues. This feature request was made in hopes of solving a very frustrating issue that students have when embedding images while using a desktop or laptop. Not a phone. We are a design school and probably 80% of the images students share are generated by them digitally on their PCs. In addition, the issue which Canvas has addressed in the app was actually a problem created in their last major app update where students no longer had access to their Camera, so they couldn’t share any kind images at all through the app. While I’m glad that Canvas addressed this, it has nothing to do with what we have been begging for in THIS feature request. Please reconsider closing this request, it has absolutely not been completed. I agree with Kenny, this idea is not completed if it is only available for the mobile app (where one was always able to upload screen shots saved in your photos directly to the discussions). The discussion threads are actually pretty much un-view-able on a phone when they have more than just a few images embedded in them because of the processing power of a phone. I actually tell students only to use the app for discussions if they are using their phone to record a video clip, otherwise they should not bother as almost all of our discussions include sharing images. Clearly the request for this functionality was based on a need students have when using Canvas on the full desktop version, not for students using the app. Please do not list this as completed when it has not in fact been. PS. The complications/struggles students have with embedding images is the most frequent topic for complaints received on technology surveys at our institution, regrading Canvas. That the problem is still not solved is really disturbing.

HI, Thank you for asking. Unfortunately I did not get a good/workable answer to my question and continues to be an issue at my institution. Unfortunately our previous LMS was able to support this so it causes a bit of unhappiness. Best, Freya ............................................................................... Thank you Scott! I’m so glad to hear this, I won’t pass the info on to my faculty until it is in beta to avoid the “are we there yet?” syndrome, but I’m really pleased to know it’s coming. Hi Scott, Thank you you for letting us know! Do you think that we may be hearing about their launch in July at InstructureCon? I can already hear the chorus of relieved sighs rippling through my classrooms and faculty lounge. Looking very forward to being able to announce these changes when they happen.

I agree completely, there are a handful of issues I have with Canvas that can be taken care of through expensive third party integrations, that really seem to be functions that just should be in the Canvas package. The embedding of images in discussion posts and the ability to record the screen and voice in Speedgrader (why my students would want to be looking at me while I described what went wrong in their paper is beyond me), are my top two. Neither of them is "new technology", why is it taking so long? If we have to subscribe to additional services in order to create the "ease of use" that one finds on other digital platforms, in Canvas, they are leaving the door open for institutions to switch LMS's when one comes along that integrates all of this without needing additional subscriptions. We are always in a budget crunch, and I am always weighing faculty & student needs with costs.

Hi Tracey, Yes, this is a good one, we have been considering asking all faculty to do this themselves (I am on my own with Canvas Admin, faculty tech training and Coordination of our Online Program). It would be better than nothing even if only some of the faculty followed through, and actually really cool if they all did it. My one worry is the possibility of old info not being updated when the course is copied to a new semester.

Hi Valerie, Thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately long course names are truncated in the display on the Dashboard cards, using '...' to indicate the course title has been shortened. The information is available when you roll over the course title, but this kind of 'time and place' information wouldn't be intuitively found by students or faculty it if it were hidden at the end of the course code and title. It needs to be on a separate line.

Hi, We would like to be able to include course meeting days and times (possibly room numbers) in the searchable course information and on the Dashboard course cards. Has anyone found a way to do this? Or, possibly you have a consultant that you could suggest? Or some advice related to a project like this. We are small design school with a tight budget. The price I was quoted for doing this through the Canvas tech consulting was astronomical, but I cant imagine we are the only school looking for a solution. Thank you! Freya

We are a small design school and for us this would be such an important tool for giving feedback on any kind of design project! Currently our instructors in design courses have to use third party tools (Jing etc), trying to support that is problematic for me, and using them to make comments on 20-40 drawings a week can be maddening for faculty (all the switching back and forth as well as copying and pasting). I have been looking at products that do screen capture and integrate with Canvas, but they seem to only be able link into the rich content editor tool bar, not the speedgrader. So, even for a price we can't have this, sadly. Certainly hope this is introduced soon.

Hi, I would like to add my voice to the conversation because I am really surprised that after two years this has still not been addressed. We are a design school, so sharing images is central to almost all of our courses. While I have created "Embedding Images in Discussions" PDF's and a video, which I distribute to courses where I know faculty are using the Discussion feature, in general faculty are under the impression that students are able to do things the same way they can, so I often get contacted by students or faculty that are completely frustrated or bewildered by the fact that faculty have had no success in guiding their students in embedding an image. When I explain the two step process for students I get complaints, and push back. We live in a drag and drop world, even the upload process is taxing these days, so two steps becomes tiresome very quickly. Is there any update on the progress with this idea? Best, Freya

Hi, We booked the red-eye back to New York Thursday the 27th, so that we could stay through the end of the conference, only to find out that the transportation vans last pickup is 5:45pm. Group vans can be booked through CME for $295, and hold 5-10 passengers. Anyone interested in sharing a van to leave between 7:30-8:15? Or possibly you are leaving around then, and have room in your ride for two additional people? Thank you, Freya

Not having this feature is the one reason that I cannot move my exams from our old, and really hard to navigate, LMS to Canvas. Every semester at least %5 of our students are unable to complete their exams due to some technical problem. I do not feel comfortable with penalizing them with a complete retake of a 1-2 hour exam, especially in the case where questions have been randomized, and there are no options available for saving instances of submitted exams, while offering an additional new exam (which even our old clunky LMS can do). This feature suggestion, or even an archive feature, would make a great deal of difference for us, and allow us to leave our old LMS. I am really disappointed to hear that it won't even be considered for more than 6 months. That will mean a whole more year in contract with our previous LMS provider.
