Hello, I am making a table on the home page in a Canvas shell. I have inserted some pictures so to get them to line up properly, I inserted a table. I don't want a border and was able to successfully delete the outside border, but there are still vertical lines between each "cell" in the table. How can I delete those? A picture is attached to show what it looks like. Thank you.

Hello, Of all the roles that can be added in Canvas, which one gives the LEAST amount of access to a course? I have to add some people to my course and I want to give them as little access as possible. I don't want them to be able to change anything, don't want them to be able to see student's grades, etc. How would they be characterized? Thank you.

Hello all, I'm hoping someone will have an answer to this question because I am unable to find it online. My students are needing some additional help so I want to do some videos for them using my iPad. I want to use that because I can write on that with the pencil and show them examples of problems while talking. I will use the Word program. My problem is that I can only get one sheet to come up --- does anyone know how to get continuous sheets like it does when you are typing in Word? Thank you so much!!

While these are all good to see if students are still active in the class during class time, they don't address my initial issue of having their video on during class, which is my real problem. Thank you for these ideas, though, I am going to try to incorporate some of them this semester.

Hello all, I'm trying to get some feedback to see if anyone requires students to have their video turned on during class. The class is required attendance, however, I have noticed in the past that students will often logon with no video, and if I call on them, they are never there, usually for the entirety of the class. This is a math class that they don't want to be at, and usually are mad about being at because it's a low level college math class. I would like to require video being on but not sure how much push back to expect -- thoughts? Thank you.

Is there a setting that will block student access to a test AFTER the test has been completed and graded? We use departmental tests and don't want the test questions floating around in the general population, which is happening because students currently have access to the tests after they are done. Is there a specific setting that should be selected? Thank you.

I understand this, and I know how to do this, but this doesn't change observer role capabilities, at least from what I can see. I read through the article but it didn't mention observers.

In a Canvas Community it states: "Each instructor can customize the links in the Course Navigation and limit the number of features that students and observers can see. Observers may or may not see links to certain features." I was unable to find anything in the Course Navigation section that allowed me to do this - could someone please direct me to the specific spot? Thanks!

When I am writing a test in Canvas, how am I able to see the questions once I have entered them? This is a new test, but it keeps taking me back to my instruction page, then when I select "new question" I can't ever find where the questions I have already entered are. Also....this is for a math test and I have some pictures that I need to use, specifically things that represent fractions, that I can't replicate in Canvas, so I have been using the Snip feature in Word, saving them in Word and then uploading them into Canvas. If I keep calling them the same name in Word, will it erase the previous image? eg, if question 1 has image x and that is called "capture" in Word, then question 2 has image y and that is also called "capture" in Word, will that take away question 1's picture? Thanks!

This will be the first "official" time I will be using lockdown browser with webcam in one of my classes due to a flex modality. Have any of you put wording directly in your syllabus regarding the lockdown browser, and if so, what did you say other than the obvious, you're going to use it? I would love to see some samples if you don't mind sharing TIA!

I understand what you are saying, but making changes in the notification, as you say, only affects MY notifications - that's not what I need. And I NEVER select "notify students that the page has changed" - NEVER, yet it always does. It's quite frustrating and unnecessary to me.

What settings do I need to change, or what do I need to do so Canvas does not send out notifications when I make changes to things? Obviously, things like Announcements I want all students to see and want them to receive a notification of, but when, for example, I give an exemption to one student to do something special, and I make those changes on Canvas, it blasts it out to every student so they know. This should be the right of the instructor to make those decisions and it should be between the individual student and instructor, not to the knowledge of everyone in the class due to extenuating circumstances that others do not need to be privy of. Or, if I just update a page, it sends an announcement. These excess announcements are not necessary for students -- think how many they are getting from me times how many classes they have - they must be going crazy from trying to read all of the announcements! Is there any workaround for this? Thanks!

Is it possible to update a document that is already in a module without deleting that entry and making a new one? For example, I have something in my 1-1 Module called Lesson 1-1 Practice Sheet. It is a Word document. I noticed an error in the document, so I changed it. But how do I now get the document back into the module without having to completely delete the Lesson 1-1 Practice Sheet entry and putting in an entirely new one? When I originally made it, I used the + sign in the module, then added a Page to the Module, then renamed it Lesson 1-1 Practice Sheet, then edited that and used the Upload Document to put the document in. When a student (or me) clicks on the Lesson 1-1 Practice sheet in the 1-1 Module, this document opens up. But, my question is, how do I change it now that I found an error. The Edit Item below only allows me to change the name or indent - it doesn't allow me to change the document. Thank you. I have been completely deleting and remaking them but it seems like there must be an easier and shorter way to do this. This is what the page looks like when the students click on it in the module --- there is nowhere for me to edit it -

Hello, Is there a way to change the black bar across the top of the home page? Currently my course name is on it - I don't need to remove it, just wondering if I could make it wider, change the color, etc? Also, there is a very large space between that and the text below it - I have tried everything and I can't reduce it - any suggestions for how to accomplish it and make it smaller? I took a snip of it which is below- the black line is quite thin, and then a large space, then I have some pictures, then another large space, and then my introduction to the class.

Thank you - To #1 -- I'm working on Da Button Factory to get buttons set up - having a couple of issues but will try to work through them To #2 - These are the pictures I am talking about - they are right underneath the title of the class on the home page. #3 - Thank you, makes sense. #4 - Glad to know I'm not the only one who feels this way - I made a comment about this.

Very much agree -- the bulk date change is great, but I still have to go in manually to every assignment and change the time, so the bulk change feature advantage is pretty much nil for me.

I'm sorry if my next few questions seem simplistic - I can't seem to be able to get anyone to answer them for me, including the online/phone Canvas support people. 1) I'm pretty new to Canvas and trying to make it work with new classes starting soon. I would like to make a couple of buttons at the bottom of my home page (I hope that's what it is called - the thing that opens when students first open Canvas). They see the title of the course, some pictures, some blah, blah, blah introduction about the course that I have typed -- at the bottom of all of that, I would like to add a "Meet Your Instructor" button to tell them a little about myself, and one that says "Learning Modules" to take them directly to the modules. How do I add these buttons, and how do I add wording on top of these buttons? IE, how do I get a background image and then the wording on top of it? I understand how to link a document with my background hello type thing on it, but how do I make the actual button and then the wording that says Meet Your Instructor or Learning Modules? (specifics if you can, please, I'm old, slow, and don't code). Are there any other buttons that seem to be particularly important/necessary/good for students or that they like? 2) How on earth do you change those pictures on the home page, the ones right above where you put the title of the course? I have tried and tried and they are all different sizes and shapes and it's a hot mess! 3) What is the Commons thing used for? 4) If you can do bulk changes in dates on assignments, why can't you do bulk changes in times? Doesn't that completely defeat the purpose of changing the dates? I have to manually go into each assignment after and change the time anyway, so what good is just changing the date? Am I missing something? Support tells me there is no way to change the time... is that correct? Thank you, thank you for any help you can supply!!
