I have courses file with the following header: course_id,short_name,long_name,status,account_id Then the data included: COURSE1,Course 1,Course 1,active,104 104 is the number for the subaccount when I hover over the URL. When I try to upload the file, I get this error: attachment_22271020230221-833871-19ozb4s.csv - Account not found "104" for course COURSE1 Is there some other number I should be using?

An instructor has a message board for students to post messages to find subs for their computer lab hours if they are unable to work in the lab during their assigned times. They can exchange hours with another student. Once the sub dates have past, the instructor removes the requests. This has the undesirable effect of leaving blank pages in the discussion. Is there some hidden voodoo way of making the most recent posts be on top, or to remove pages with no content?

I was asked to create a contingency plan in case there was a medium (days to a week) to long term (weeks to months) Canvas outage and/or internet infrastructure outage. Basic options (medium term) were revert to paper, electronically submit papers via email or our cloud storage solution. Long term was a bit more drastic (local Canvas or Moodle server, switch LMS service in case of Canvas shuttering), and so-on. I was curious if anyone else here has created any such contingency plans and come up with novel or ingenious ideas that I missed.

We have an annotation assignment where the students are supposed to type their name on a document. We have a list of instructions on how to accomplish this, however when a student clicks on the assignment, the page jumps straight to the annotation portion of the assignment, resulting in the instructions not being the first thing they see. A student would need to scroll up in order to see them. Is there any way to change this behavior?

Okay, I figured it out. For some absurd reason, even though I had the chart selected when I clicked the checkbox next to the field, the filter was being applied to the page and not the visualization. I had to explicitly drag the field to the visualization filter area. Also, one of my coworkers suggested adding '+0' to the end of the formula to force a number value in the calculation instead of leaving them blank, just in case there's something screwy with what blank means to PowerBI. Does it mean 0, does it mean null, etc. I'm leaving this one up here so everyone else can learn from my mistake.

I created a chart report that shows our numbers of published & unpublished courses year over year. One thing I'd like to exclude is courses with 0 enrollments. These courses would never be published, so it skews the results. I created a new column in my course_dim table called student_enrollment, then I wrote a DAX statement for that column: student_enrollment = calculate(countrows(enrollment_dim), filter(enrollment_dim, enrollment_dim[type] == "StudentEnrollment" && course_dim[id] == enrollment_dim[course_id] && enrollment_dim[workflow_state] <> "deleted")) The courses with 0 enrollment are blank instead of showing a 0, which doesn't seem like it should be a problem. When I add the student_enrollment column as a filter to my report, I select "Show items when the value is not blank", then click Apply filter, nothing changes. If I change it to "is blank", all the results disappear. Any ideas?

Thanks, for the suggestion! Combining your two posts, I was able to use $('#help_tray ul li:contains("Get Help Email")').hide(); which worked perfectly! If InstructureCon ever goes back to human space, I owe you a beer. 😄

Here's a scenario I'm trying to figure out: I have created a new sub-account for online students at our college. I also created a new role for the students based off of the original student role. I want to have a link in the Global Navigation help menu called "Support for online students" that is only visible for these students, since support for them is going to be handled differently. We don't want those students contacting our regular support, and we don't want our in-person student contacting the online student support. When I query to see what roles the grad students have in ENV.current_user_roles, it shows student as opposed to online student, so I can't use that to hide the menu item using Javascript based on roles. Is there a way to determine if a student is viewing courses under a separate sub-account? These students' courses will exist solely under that sub-account.

Thanks, Chris! Knowing that helps. I also tried to write some Javascript code to see if there was a way to hide it from a user based on the role. Even though I gave the user the role "Test Student", their role in ENV.current_user_roles still shows as student, so that's not going to work either.

I created a new sub-account for a new program we're staring. I have also created a duplicate of the student role for these students. There are a couple of menu items on the Help menu that I would like hidden from the students in just this sub-account. How would I go about hiding the menu items from these students? The duplicate role does not show up as an option when I am editing the permissions, and when I go into the sub-account, there isn't an option to edit the help menu.

I'm setting up an orientation course for a specific program, and would like to have the students complete this orientation course before their other courses become available to them. Is this a possibility? Something similar to adaptive release in modules, but with courses.

Thanks to another post on this board, I found out that New Quizzes data is not included in Canvas Data. I asked our SCM about what other data is not included, and he referred us to Account Services. They recommended that I look at the schemas, but that still doesn't tell me what's not included. For instance, there's tables for quizzes, but New Quiz info is not included. The only way I was able to figure that out was by writing some queries, getting empty results, and then checking here. Is there anyone here that has any insights as to what is not currently included with Canvas Data? I'm sure that would be a useful list for most users in this group. Thanks! 🙂

Yesterday I was looking at the number of published courses for our Summer 1 term. When I looked at yesterday's course_dim workflow_status, it showed X number of courses as Active -- assuming that is the indicator that a course is published. However, I manually counted Y courses that are published on the website, which is greater than X. I did this before Canvas Data showed the last update was completed yesterday afternoon. I downloaded the updated data this morning, and the data shows X courses being published as opposed to Y courses. Is there a significant lag in Canvas data, or is course_dim workflow_status not a good indicator of how many courses are published in the system.
