Thank you Molly, but unfortunately that solution has some key limitations: • You don't get the Share icon when you search for a video in Studio. So if you have, say, a hundred videos and you want to share a specific one you have to scroll-scroll-scroll until you find that video. If you search for the video you don't get the option to share it or generate a public link. • Analytics are not provided when you use the share-with-link option, which is how you need to link to videos in Canvas pages. This makes the solution less than ideal for instructors who want to link to videos in Pages (but not embed them) and still be able to know which of their students are actually watching the videos. While it's certainly nice to have everything listed and linked on one page, mobile devices should also be considered when designing course content.  So, the longer your page is on the web, it's going to be more scrolling yet for your students who are using mobile devices with small screens. I agree! This is exactly why I want a short page with links to videos, and not a super long page with embedded video thumbnails. Many of my students watch my videos on mobile, and I need a solution that works for them as well as desktop users. I did think about the idea of creating a separate page for each video, and then embedding each video on its own page, and then linking to those pages...but from a logistics standpoint that solution is untenable. I have over a hundred videos in my course, which would mean adding over 100 pages and then going through the embed process for each one, and it's just not something I have time for. Thanks for the help, Chris! I'll check out the Studio Users Group page, and I appreciate the recommendation. I need a list of video links rather than a series of embedded videos because it's easier for my students to navigate, and I can also easily add times and descriptions along with each video. This way my students can see titles and descriptions at a glance without scrolling past a half-dozen thumbnails. I'm attaching a screenshot of what it looks like. I'm sharing an idea that has come up several times this semester, with frustrated instructors around campus echoing the same thoughts as what I'm sharing here. In Brightspace/D2L, our former LMS, instructors could access discussion board statistics with a few clicks. It would show a chart of every student in class, how many times they posted, how many times they replied, even how many posts they read. The chart was sortable, and clicking the header of any column would instantly sort by that criteria. It was an incredibly simple way to get student participation data, especially in a large class.   Canvas has nothing in this regard. The closest it has to offer is going through student analytics, one by one, and looking at discussion data on a per-student basis. Imagine doing this for a large class of 20, 50, or 100 students. It's a nearly impossible task. I know instructors can use Speedgrader to see all the posts a student has made on a graded discussion, but this is still much slower than the old method in Brightspace. It also does not work whatsoever if an instructor has a single grade for multiple discussions. (i.e. a Week Four discussion grade where students can choose to reply to any of three given prompts.)   I'm attaching two images to illustrate what I'm talking about. The first is a screenshot from Brightspace showing the type of data we used to have. The second is a tally sheet that one of our instructors sent us, along with an email that he sent explaining his frustrations.   I want to be clear on this: I like Canvas a lot, both as an administrator and as a faculty member. But the absence of a way to easily get usable data for things like discussions is mind-boggling. I don't know what it would take for this to be added, but it sure would be useful.   Here is the instructor's email:   I have a very active discussion board for my online sections of [Course 1] and [Course 2].  I think it adds significant value to the class.  The way I assess the students (they get a grade for discussion board participation) is based on the number of times they post.  In D2L, this was a breeze.  D2L provided nice statistics, not only regarding the number of times each student posts, but whether the post was starting a thread, was in response to a thread, etc.  Canvas has none of that capability.  I chatted with them several times looking for a way to replicate the functionality that D2L provided me.  Nothing.   As a result, as you can see below, I had to resort to physically counting the number of times each student posted (this literally took hours, as you can imagine).  I’m not complaining—just thought it would be helpful for you to know this.  ... I wanted to share the attached PDF as an example of just how confusing this issue has been for our faculty. I had the same issue come up twice today, with different faculty members, and neither one is a slouch when it comes to technology or teaching. Canvas Grade Post Policy Confusion (PDF) There seems to be two issues here: 1. This instructor, as well as others, have told me that when they are grading using the iPad Canvas App that the Mute function still exists. This apparently gives different results compared to the Post Policy, and one of the side effects is that students can see instructor comments but not grades. 2. Note the item highlighted at the top of the PDF which is regard to the iconography. The faculty member assumes that an eye-with-slash means that grades are "hidden" when, in fact, it is merely an indicator of the Post Policy. I don't mean to be the squeaky wheel here, but I just got off the phone with another faculty member who was grading assignments on her mobile phone. She said something about "Mute Grades" and I thought for sure she was thinking about the old system because it has now been changed to Post Policy, as we have been discussing in this thread. After our phone call I logged into the Canvas Mobile Teacher App and was quite surprised that the faculty member was correct: it still says Mute Grades. The screenshot below is what I took from the Canvas Mobile Teacher App a few minutes ago. I went to my Assignments, then tapped on an individual Assignment, and then tapped on the Gear icon at the top of the screen: I'm not quite sure what to make of this, but I assume that the Mobile App will be updated soon to reflect the changes to Post Policy. I know the Canvas developers have a lot of things on their plate right now, but inconsistencies like this between the Mobile App and the web-based version add a new layer of confusion for faculty. Incidentally, the faculty member with whom I spoke was on an Android phone but I verified that the same issue was happening on iOS as well.  @jfenton ‌ I know you and your team are working hard to deal with these issues, and I appreciate your efforts as well as your work to keep us updated here.  @jfenton ‌ and others...here is a screenshot from an email I received today. We're taking steps to alleviate these issues, such as sending out the videos we created which I shared last week on this thread, but I wanted to show an example of the kinds of confusion this has caused. This particular professor has tried to solve the problem on her own, but it's just not very intuitive and I can understand her frustration. As others in this thread have mentioned, if grades on an assignment (i.e. the Assignment Post Policy) could be changed to Hidden directly from Speedgrader I think that would go a long way towards dealing with some of the confusion. Alternatively, if grades could be set to Hidden before any grades are entered I think that would help a lot too. I realize that the Assignment Post Policy can be changed before grades are entered, so maybe this is simply just a matter of educating faculty on the new system, but it's clear to me that there is still some improvements to be made here. ...
