Google Assignments LTI 1.3 just doesn't seem to work as well as the old Google Drive Cloud Assignments. Grading on the iPad Canvas Teacher app of Google Docs submitted through Google Assignments is iffy at best; it doesn't look like you can use the Apple Pencil at all for making annotations on student work, and I've found the app is at least frequently unable to render files that have images in them. Other teachers here have found that if students submit a Google Sheet, then plots the students created don't survive the conversion to the Microsoft format.

Is there any news on this from Instructure? I know Google Drive Cloud Assignments is going away "someday," and it would be good if the Google Assignments feature worked dependably. From what I can tell, while we can "get into" work assigned via Google Assignments on the Canvas Teacher iPad app, we still cannot grade it with the Apple Pencil. To be honest, as a new Canvas school, we are frustrated and have struggled so far finding ways to get the Google Assignments LTI to work reliably for both students and teachers, even on laptops.
